Here are a few pics of the steering box in place. I had to trim back a little of the x member to make room for it. Now it looks like the box is too close to the rear exhaust port. I see Reds headers makes headers for a 32 frame with a F1 box so I may end up ordering a set up. I do have a set of old headers I may try to modify too but I am not sure everything is in the correct spot yet.

Well I got it up on all four tires last night. My bushing showed up for the shackels and it worked.

I started fitting the cross braces last night. I'm not sure how I will attach them to the frame yet.

I also got the throttle pedal moving again and mounted to the firewall.

I decided to weld a plate to the inside of the frame rail to mount the cross braces. They needed allot of surgery to work. They are also mounted upside down compared to how they were born. Once they were tacked in they eliminated frame flex I was getting when I jumped up and down on the center of the X.

I have decided to ditch the square back spindles and use '32 spindles. The 32's have an integrated steering arm so I don't have to use a bolt on steering arm. This meant I had to rework the top of the king pins since I am not going to be using mechanical brakes. I cut the ball of and then file finished the tops. That is about all I got done yesterday. I had to order a spacer kit that will allow me to run the juice backing plates on the early spindles. I have found that this kit is only made up of 2 model a piston rings and 2 model a valve seats but I didn't have any of those laying around.

Tim, I did the same with the 33-34 front end on my '28. Can't tell from the pic, how did you fill the hold that goes through the center of the king pin??

I knew about the piston ring, I didn't know the part that goes on the spindle was a valve seat. I ordered the kit from Speedway. It comes with no instructions. Didn't say anything about filling the holes in the backing plates and re-drilling new holes.

I welded the top shut and built up the edge where the ball was. The directions I have seen say just to file the holes to fit. They look like they are very close to the edge. They also show using washers on the inside of the backing plate like this.

Yes they are close to the edge, that's why I welded them shut and re-drilled. You can use a smaller washer if you weld the old hole up.

Looked at the king pin pic again. Your middle name Sam?? :0) What's the bottom, 32 ?
