My idea for a new site, may need some help
« on: October 29, 2005 10:13 pm »
I have been toying with this idea for a long time now, and think I am gonna get it up and running this spring.

I want to start a online magazine of sorts for the ND auto/motorcycle scene.  Hot rods, street rods, imports, compacts, muscle cars, sport trucks, off road trucks, choppers, sport bikes, etc.

The main focus of the site would be car shows and automotive related events throughout the state and surrounding states/provinces, both promotion and coverage.  But I would really like to stick to the theme of the site being a online magazine, and do some features, and maybe follow the buildups of some peoples rides.

I would really like to get the first "issue" out sometime this spring, after the Jamestown, Toppers, and Prime Steel shows.

I would also like to do a feature on the Suedes for the first issue, but that could be discussed later.

What I would need now, is name ideas, I was thinking ndcarshows.com or nodakcarshows.com, but sounds kinda bland.  Any ideas?

And since I dont get to make it to a lot of shows, although with my 3 day weekends every week I plan on making it to more shows, but could still use some event photographers.  Any volunteers?

Also do you guys know who I would talk to about getting this in the NDSRA Linechaser when the time comes?  Anymore forums you can think of I could post this on?

Or do you guys just think its a crazy idea?  Let me know.

Also this is kinda the idea I am talking about for online magazine.  Well, what their site used to be like, now they seem to have a ton of ads.

Honestly, it sounds like a hell of a lot of work for maybe llittle in return. There was a kid on the HAMB a while back, but wanted to charge people to be a member. That would not fly. People can see a lot of the same type of pics and cars for free other places on the 'net. Also you talking about MSRA LineChaser? Ads are the only way to get something out of it for all the work you would put into it. It would be something I would support personally, but its just my 2 cents FWIW.

Ya, I know it would be a lot of work.  But Im going to shows anyways and taking a lot of pictures already.  But of course thats why I would need help, from, people who are making it to the shows and know how to take good pictures.

I definitely wouldnt charge people for the site.  Its not a money making deal Im after anyways.  I suppose after the site grew in some popularity I would try to sell ads to help pay for the bandwidth.

But not really looking for anything on my end.  More of a service, so every club in ND, and every person, has one site to see what shows are going on.  It would also be nice to show that people are showing up to some of the smaller car shows, and help them grow.

Its kinda like the winter car show we have, I sent out like twenty some applications (that was just the ones I sent) and had everyone of them that I sent them to say "ya Im gonna be at the show".  Well you guys are the only ones that actually sent in their applications.

I think they all got the idea that the show isnt worth their time.  People that never been there or seen whats there.

Whats the NDSRA thing they put out?  I thought the NDSRA newsletter or magazine or whatever was called the LineChaser.

NDSRA newsletter is Street Talkin' and you'd need to talk to Larry Larson to submit somethign for that.  It should say in the cover of it if you've got one handy.
