What the Weed's been working on....
« on: November 12, 2010 1:52 am »
This is the 57 Ford that I've been busy playing with for about a month now. Since I bought the 57 moredoor from Tyrel I've cannabolized that thing, stole the engine-trans, gas tank, steering column and box, wide whites and soon the rear bumper. Tonight Bud and I finally fired her up and she sounds pretty decent with the glasspacks on. This 57 is the longest I've ever owned a car. I have had this thing since about 1974 when I was about 12 years old. It used to belong to two of my uncles and one of my cousins, all of whom are now deceased except one uncle. Never being a Ford guy I just never had much interest in it , but couldnt bring myself to let it go either. So now, I'm pretty much into this thing and thinking its a way better looking car than a 57 chevy could ever try to be. I'm still not sold on Ford technology cause this thing is a PITA to work on though compared to a Chev but I'm hanging in there...There also is one shot of my 56 on the new (used) hoist I installed for those who havent been this way in a while. So enjoy my junk...Weed

Ahh. Looks good. I agree on the 57Ford vs. 57 Chev statement. It is one of the few years Ford out sold Chev! My very first car was a 57 Ford Fairlane 500 2drhtp.  And my best friend in high school had the mate to yours...brown with white top Fairlane. Can't wait to see it done. What's your plans for color?

Yeah Jake, I am really unsure of what color to go with, originally it was called silver mocha, not sure how they figured it was silver. My cousin had it resprayed the calf shit brown in the early seventies and I really am not a fan of anything brown. I'm sort of leaning towards a maroon but not sure yet...I do know I want a white cabin though....

Car dealers call it "Stay around brown" because brown cars never sell! Mine was black when I got it and I painted it Mustang Poppy Red (orange).  It was 1965. Ahhh memories.

Glad the parts are going live from my 57, I don't remember what that motor sounds like with an exhaust though.

A.B., it sounds pretty good but will sound better with tailpipes. I think it has a bit of a miss, prolly gonna need a valve job but I've got a 292 I'm getting ready for later. I would really like to build a 312 but with 10 projects going again it might be awhile....

Looks good Weed, looking forward to seeing what you do with it!  Your shop looks a bit different since I was up your way last.

Yeah C.J., two winters ago I bumped out a wall into my cold storage area for a office which is now storage for my vintage engine collection and last winter I raised the ceiling to install the hoist. So, hopefully this winter I can get back on my ever increasing projects and get a car done again...

Yeah, you caught me Tom. Those are I'm to lazy to run to run to house to get the camera pictures. As I go maybe I'll muster up the gumption to take some good picts. I moved it onto the hoist saturday, so now I'm going after the brakes and the Aerostar coil spring installation. Then rocker panels after that...Stay tuned....Weed

If you finish this car, you know paint and everything, I won't know what to say. With all the Chevy's you have started to work on.........like I said I'm speechless.
