upside down brakes?
« on: April 18, 2008 9:40 am »
Super nice car, but why are the rear brakes upside down?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1931-Model-A-Roadster-PERIOD-PERFECT-POST-WAR-HOT-ROD_W0QQitemZ300216101046QQcmdZViewItem

Since this car is so perfect and period correct, either there must be an "old hot rodders trick" or someone got paid a lot of money and screwed up. Whaddya think?

i dotn think that is an issue at all.  they still work the same way, they arent self actuating, so it shouldent matter at all.

Yeah.........I'm can't remember how much he got for it. At least he giving credit where it belongs, only thing I see different are the covers and air cleaners.

I think that's what you have to do when you mount hydraulic brakes on a model "A" rear end.

Here we are on the salt. Kris had just finished building it. They had pulled a couple of all nigthers to get it done. He was so tired his brother drove it out and he went to bed. Kris came out the next day.

Yes up sidedown rear backing plates is the only way to clear the rear spring perch when running it in the stock position. Very common.

When we saw it in Bville it was running original Eddy Meyer heads and intake. I like the ones on it now too usually it is just covers but it looks like it has heads to back it up .

Yeah, my old 29 roadster that was put together in the 50's also has upside down brakes. It has the original model A rear but with the spring moved behind the axle. I think the brakes were flipped before the spring was moved back .Now the brakes would clear the shackles...must have been quite common. I cant see that the brakes would know the difference....

OH!!!!!!!!! Looks like I miss spoke. I read the WHOLE eBay add. Kris apparently still owns the roadster. He has some with the gift of writing listing it for him. The other listing I saw I believe it got to a little over $40,000.00 which I didn't think was enough for the quality of the build that it is.

I was pulled so I assume a deal was worked out on the side.
