The fire was mostly in the north and northeast corner, the part down the hill. Mandan Rural FD was incident command, Mandan City FD had all units there also, Bismarck City responded with Brush fire trucks and covered the City of Mandan with Fire and Rescue protection during the fire, Bismarck Rural responded with 2 tankers, 1 pumper, 1 brush truck, and an air supply trailer to refill breathing air bottles and also was on standby for brush fire protection for Bismarck City, since their brush trucks were committed. Center had a large wildfire at the same time and so did Wilton. Washburn FD assisted Center and Bismarck Rural FD, Wing FD and Mercer FD assisted Wilton FD.
It was a busy day for emergency services.
I was on standby at the Bismarck Rural station for most of the day and we did have another grass fire prior to the tragic Johnson's fire. I think they figured I might become too emotional if I went to Johnsons, so We stayed on call in case of other emergencies. One of the firemen that was over at Johnsons showed me photos he took with his phone. I did get a little weak in the knees, but I think I'm handling it OK now. I just got back home from cleaning equipment at the fire station.
I'll try get a better assesment of the damage later.
