Thanks for the info! I still and trying to decide if I want an aluminum one or if I will have a stock one cut down.

I cut down a flywheel for an 8ba a few years back but have not used it, the motor is still an unfinished project.  I used a lathe and found the flywheel pretty hard and tough to cut.  I cut several pounds off but do not remember how much.  It still was not close to what an aluminum one is.

The other thing to remember in cutting weigh is to go with a smaller clutch and pressure plate.  I went with the 10 inch clutch since the aluminum flywheel was light to start with and gave me more surface to work with with the brass insert.

I saw a picture on the internet some time ago where someone cut a flywheel using a mill.  He cut out areas on the face of the flywheel between where the bolts for the pressure plate go.  It made sense since that would be removing the weight on the outside of the flywheel where it would do more good.

Neal,

I look foward to seeing it. Would look good at the Toppers car show next spring!!

Thanks for saying that but this thing is nothing special, just a driver.  The paint is old with plenty of character and the interior is well broke-in.  I like it that way since the first scratches and dents have already been put in.  But it is definately no show car.
