I also went an picked up my quickchange from Randy at Lake City Rod and Custom. I first took the spring stack apart and cleaned it all up. Then I installed the main leaf on the rear. I had to do it this way since my spring spreader will not work with the quickchange center section.  Then I just put the rest of the stack on and clamped it together.

Oops a few things I forgot to add. I did finally cut the rear floor for the rear crossmember to come through. I got a Model A sedan panel to cover it up and it fits perfect.

Then I had a problem. Once the hole was cut I pushed the rear of the body down and the damn cowl came up. It was like a teeter totter. It turns out that the stock floor had a storage pan under the seat that hangs between the rails. I 3 choices, one was to modify the x member to fit the body, or I could modify the pan to fit the x member. I chose option 3 which was to remove the pan. It was just riveted in so I drilled them out and then cut a flat piece of metal for under the seat.

The next part was fun since the body had not been up on all 4 tires yet. The tires look like they are in the right place too me. If you run a straight line up they may be back slightly but I think it will work.

Next I slid the gas tank in to see what was going to happen there. Sure as shit it will need to be cut. I had held out hope that the car was high enough that it would clear but no such luck. I hope to get that marked an ready to cut this week.

Last night I decided I wanted to get the headlight bar made too so I ended up getting it built but not mounted to the frame yet. I used an original 32 4cyl headlight bar. Just cut the ends off then measured shit for about an hour then welded it together. Then spent another hour grinding, welding, grinding, welding........

So I missed this a week or so ago.....Interesting stuff.....I think that's Clarence Braunberger on the right cowl.  If I remember right that photo was on the office wall in his old shop on 13th and he may have even told me a little about it many years ago. Is this right?

If so, can you give us a little history on the car and who all is in the photo....CJ or Eyeball?

Hot Rod history is fun, especially if it's local.

The short guy, back row with the crew cut, is Tony Geiger from Bismarck. He was never a Toppers member, he just happen to be at the drags and was  hanging out.

It seems to fit pretty good. I had to weld up an redrill the mounting holes on the drivers side cuz I had drilled them about 1/4 too far forward. I tried tightening the cowl down on those brass tabs on the front of the cowl and it pulls it in nice but then the doors don't work since I have not tightened the rest of the body down.

I really don't know. The year it was on the shirt everyone was figuring it out but I was unable to retain it in my memory banks.....among other things. :)

The guy with his foot on the tire is Morie Lamb (sp) , with the dark glasses behind Clarence was from Bismarck, passed away shortly after the pic was taken. The one kneeling by the tire and the one with the glasses,back and to the left are brothers ( but I can't remember their names  :roll: )

They were at a track in MN some place and they wouldn't let them run with out a hood. So they made up the hood you see in the pic.

Now back to Tim's build.
