Pictures of my '40

Here's some pictures of the '40.  I did the striping on the oil filter, '53 ford 8BA, dual carbs, etc... It is scheduled to be at Devil's Run next year-  It'll be all black with red wheels and striping/flames.

It looks great! Your dad updates me every once in a while. And I like the striping.

The radiator's a Walker 4 core- I got that from Tim at MN Hot Rod Hardware for a good deal- the headers are Red's Headers from California- with the ceramic-chrome coating on them.  I'll have more pictures of it up by the end of Christmas break anyway...I have to finish bodywork on the doors and rear end and the whole body will be in black primer- the fenders are all done and the hood is ready for black too-  excitement city!

The flathead was bored .040 over, w/ flat top pistons. it may have a mild cam in it- I'm not sure, but I'll find out- It's got dual carbs obviously- instead of messing with the jets on the carbs we just put a new power valve in each carb (it's much simpler, and you don't need to adjust as much later on) -two new water pumps from speedway with ceramic seals and ball bearings-I put an alternator on it for reliablitity-It's got a mallory dual-point thanks to Bruce Garberg- and the oil pan has been cut out so it could clear the axle- we had to put a new pickup in it and such.  Other than that, I'm running a '39 3 speed toploader and an 8'' rearend with cruising gears in it- not sure what the ratio would be. The flattie was re-built about 8 years ago by a guy by the name of Dick DeMars from fergus-  he's got lots of knowledge- and lots of flatheads!

lookin' good slim.

How did you convert the 39 toploader to an open drive? With F1 stuff?

The rear springs are from chassis engineering- they were really easy to install because I think you had to drill 2 holes for each side, but they already lined up with other holes.  Yeah Eberhama- I did sell you that hood- still got it?

As far as the tranny goes, I got it from Conley Nygaard as a trade for a '52 F-1 cab and chassis, and he said it was a '39, but he can be kinda mixed up.  If there is such thing as a later 3 spd. open-drive toplader, then that's what it might be too, but otherwise Dick DeMars said that you could use the open drive yolk from a later model tranny.
