General Discussion / Re: Early Fifties 29 Roadster
« on: December 01, 2016 4:02 AM »
I suck at taking photos while I work. Frame is off the table as most of you know, and on sitting on it its rollers thanks to some wood mockup wheels I made at work. Put a decent order into Mac's the other day and that should bring on some more progress.

Pedals and columnshift linkage is all sorted and happily working together. I'm working on the parking brake setup currently, major components are sorted. Made a bracket that attaches to the X-member since there isn't a top cover to mount to like a toploader trans. Once that is sorted I'll start figuring out brake and fuel line routing. Trying to get the chassis items taken care off so I can move onto the body, seating and dash items.

Motor internals are all together and I just picked up my heads from Wayne, freshly decked and cleaned. Hope to paint the engine before it gets ridiculously cold.

I cut down a '35 driveshaft for some header pipes that will exit just shy of the door edge. They will get capped and plumbed into the exhaust system into some glasspacks terminating just after the rear axle.

I've been thinking about holding off on finding a tapered and keyed steering shaft and running a 49-50 shoebox steering wheel, if I can find a decent one, then later adapting a splined hub onto my 41-48 wheel if it would work out. I like the thought of getting all the steering lined up then just putting the wheel on nice and straight.

Also hung the decklid... it's going to need some work to get it right though. I'm trying not to get into too much of the body, dash, seat, accessory items until more of the chassis is complete.

You're making some quick progress! I like the center crossmember set up. I'm planning on doing that also. An plans for speed equipment?  ;D

I have both an Edelbrock and Edmunds 2x2 intake to decide between, and a Harmon Collins 3/4 race grind cam. Still on the hunt for heads. The Merc crank and 3-5/16" bore should help with "speed". A Mallory or any type of performance dual point or mag distributor would be cool.

Picked up a dash rail as well as a pair of rear bones at the Fifties swap this past weekend.

I do have an update. Rear crossmember is in and rear reinforcement plates are trimmed down to fit over the kickup. I picked up a 46 Ford x-member from Eyeball and got it trimmed down and fitting.

Bolted in the motor and trans to see how seating, steering and pedals all line up. Fits together pretty damn well. I'm going to modify the F-1 column drop work with the angle of the dash to retain the columnshift opening.

Once the x-member gets spread correctly at the rear and welded in I can get it of the table and on the ground.

I made the Frame table, Tyrel. Scored some scrap steel from work and threw it together.

Yeah Tracy, that's the one. It came from one of the indoor vendors.

Frame is in, level and square. Front crossmember is in place, motor mounts are next.

Let's see how long I can keep this updated. 29 body on aftermarket 32 rails. It will be powered by a 276 cu in flatty mated to a 41 ford side shifter and a 40 banjo rest. Shooting for something that would have been street driven in 1950-51, like early Hop Up mag years.

Showed that to Alex, he said too bad it wasn't listed when they were putting the barber shop together... that would have been the restroom.
