Brings back memories of getting out of school in 1966 to sandbag the dike. "Dike patrol" was the funnest. We took the old 55 Chev wagon around the dike to check for leaks and "varmits" trying to invade the town. One guy sat on each fender with a shotgun and a spotlite as we idiled around the dike. We would check for leaks in the dike and "deter" any invading skunks, rats, mice and other pests. We even got an "attaboy" from the county sherrif for our "thourough" patrol methods.
Some of the guys got "pinched" by the game warden for spearing carp on Highway 1, with pitchforks (not me). The county judge threw the deal out and told the game warden to find something more constructive to do than mess with a few kids having fun in the disaster.
