235 Chevy revisited

After calling everyone, including the engine rebuild shops, there apparently is not one new rocker arm in the United States of America for a Chevy 236 6 cyl. Now resigned to that fact, Rob and I will be heading to the salvage yard this weekend. We shouldn't have any trouble finding a used one. Last night, however, we tried welding the old one. Rob put it back on and it shortly broke again. He mumbled something derogatory about welding cast iron. The new carb is supposed to be in today. Just thought I'd give an update on our progress. On the other hand, the paint is buffing out rather nicely.

Did you check with some of the stovebolt places?  I know Langdon's was always good about carrying parts....I don't see it listed on their online catalog, but might be worth a shot.

Now that tomorrow is Thursday already, I doubt that we could order a new rocker if we found one and get it by Saturday morning. So we're resigned to picking our own. We might end up at the drags on Saturday the 23rd. There is a cruise leaving Wild Rice at 11 a.m. and one of the stops is the drag strip. It depends on whether or not Rob has to work that Saturday. We may take the Polara and the Chevy.

It's strange how things happen. I called everywhere the other day looking for a rocker arm. Parts places were checking their warehouses and finding nothing. Trevor at M & J called a couple of special places for me. I called Quality Engine and the fellow I talked to said there weren't any rockers to be found. Last night Rob came over after work and said he will have a whole new front half rocker unit tonight (Friday) the arms and shaft. He said he was telling one of the guys at a site he was working at yesterday about the Chev and how we couldn't find a rocker. The guy called Quality and they told him they could get the whole front assembly and it would be here today. I think he said it was $30 for the whole assembly. The carb was supposed to be in yesterday but apparently it is riding around in a big Brown truck somewhere. It should be here today so tonight will be busy.

What is the deal with this Saturday Cruise? Is it held the same day as the NDSRA Day at the Drags? Who is putting it together?

From what I know the cruise leaves Wild Rice at 11 a.m. Saturday the 23rd. It will travel to several of the surrounding towns and will make a pass through the drag strip to see the cars that show up for the drags. One of the guys at work had a crumpled-up poster in his pocket the other day and showed it to me. I didn't notice who is sponsoring it, and he has the day off today so I can't ask him.
