if you notice there is a tube running under the car to the muffler, that would be legal.

I lost my copy of Mikes book "How to build a traditional hot rod" I don't remember if he used drive shafts or not. Do some resarch on the HAMB but I am pretty sure they do not use the torque tube but the drive shaft from 33-34 fords. They were not solid but a tapered tube. If I get time I will check it out.

I see some used 33-34 torque tubes and then yes, 35-36 drive shafts.

yeah, 33-34 driveshafts are a nonconical tube and 35-36 are double tapered. I used 35-36 for my headers on my "T". The torque tubes seem like they would get quite heavy...if I remember right in the Tardel book they show a mock-up of a 33-34 tt and then they decide to build a cone out of stainless..looks like the 33-34 torque tube is about the only ones that have a "near constant taper" and are prolly lighter then newer ones..

So 33-34 torque tubes will give me the look similar to the blue highboy above, correct?

Yes, i believe they will. I have one out back I'll have to take a look at but I'm sure thats what they look like...except the real torque tubes have the flange on that is thicker, but that could be eliminated if you really want em to look like ol bluey there...
