Advanced Specialty Auto class @ NDSCS

This post is directed towards Jake...

I've contacted NDSCS and I'm in the process of trying to get into this class w/o the extra 2 years of auto.  Are there some things I should know about the department head?  Who is the department head?  What would I get to do in the class?  I'm sure I have a few more questions but you get the idea...

For Joel and any others interested.  The Auto Body Specialties Option with a certificate is now approved and "officially" in the books.  Might take a few days before it's on the web catalog. So... Hypothetically I could get into the auto/paint portion too?  I'd love to upholster my car and paint it... It would be done!

It's definitely a possiblity.  There might be a little learning curve on the paint products and techniques, but with concentration you could do it. We really need to sit down and talk specifically about what you want to get out of the course and how we can accomplish it.

Hmmm, if JD only keeps me seasonal and lays me off, I'll have to see if I can't get Job Service to pick up the bill for this.

Can you kinda tailor this around what you already know?  Been MIG welding for over 4 years now professionally, and went to school for TIG welding this summer, so would be kinda redundant and would rather spend the extra time on areas I'd like to learn more about.

The 4 theory classes are only offered as you see them.  Fall 1st 8 weeks - UPH.  Fall 2nd 8 wks. - Sheet metal. Spring 1st 8 wks - welding.  Spring 2nd 8 wks - custom painting.

The labs are all offered each 8 wks. as it is an open lab with all students at the same time.

So you can enter at any 8 week interval.  The welding segment would probably be when you are off, but you would be able to register for the lab and continue in the lab when the others are doing the theory.

It is a somewhat unique schedule in that the Lab runs 8am-Noon Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri.  Wed. is theory (specialty day) 8 - noon.

I need to add this.....This is not designed to teach "basic" auto body skills.  So if you have no auto body training or experience, the UPH/Auto trim class might be the only one some students would be allowed to register for.
