As usually happens, I've gotten way deeper into this project than I had planned.  It's now apart down to the bare body on the frame and drive train.  

But it's far enough that we got it in primer today.  One good coat of epoxy and then (the "Overhaulin" way)....FIVE coats of polyester primer. Now a bunch of block sanding...hopefully I can get the body in color and back together before BTT50's....good luck....I'm not 30 any more..... :roll:

Not it's original dark grey....but original for the year....Coach Maroon....a really dark maroon.

I got carried away and now it's too late to stop. It will still be just a basic build.  Nothing fancy....body didn't come off the frame. Tried to keep it simple, but went a little farther.  :?

HMMMM,  PPG--good stuff.  You must have forgot there are other good or better products that can get you what you want color wise probably with better hiding.

For obvious reasons I use PPG.  It's what we teach.  But if I could find another brand of single stage urethane or acrylic enamel that matched, I'd consider it. I'd like to single stage it to be similar to what was offered in the 40s. Alkyd - no thanks...not that similar.

Here's the PPG match - #916040.  A Ferrari color called Masolac.  Original Ford color - IM 1471 - Coach Maroon.

I'm a little surprised that NDSSS only teaches PPG.  That seems like a disservice to the students.

BASF (RM, Glasurit),  Akso-Nobel (sikkens-utech), Dupont (Spies Hecker, Nason, Standox), Sherwin Williams (Martin Senior, Acme, Western), all have very good single stage urethanes and most should be able to cross reference color numbers or paint codes or have chip books by shade and color.  They all should be compatible with your 2K undercoat system.

I recently went down to the Sikkens jobber and used their "color-map" book to match a color in single stage.  I have also used Dupont's color book by shades.  If I find a matching chip, I check the formula for poor hiding toners or tints before I move on to getting a small amount for shooting a test panel.
