  No, unfortunately.  I had a lot of family stuff going on last week and now I'm hard at an interior in a '38 Ford Tudor w/Flathead.  And I've been working nights on some house repair work I had planned when I "couldn't do anything".

I got the fuel pump rebuild kit late last week, but haven't had time to put it in yet.  And now I think I better get a carb kit.  I start it up once or twice a day just for the fun of it and now it looks like it might leak also. Typical Holley!

I don't forsee driving it much this year, other than around town and to work a few times (close enough that I can tow it home again).  I'll give it the good once over this winter and hopefully be able to drive it on some short trips next year.  Of course that puts the "A" on the back list again.  Oh well....It's all fun.

  Overhauled the fuel pump tonight.  Drove it from the front garage to the back yard and then backed it into the garage again.  Runs pretty good.  Let it run for about 15 minutes and it was at about 170 degrees.  The generator must have loosened up inside or something as the amp guage started to show a charge.  It had showed a discharge before, didn't show a charge when running.  When I revved it up a little and ran it at a higher rpm for a while the amp guage started to show a charge now.

It does have a couple of oil leaks though, after idling for that long.  From the front of the pan and the rear.  I suppose seals.  The oil is pretty thin though.  I'll put some straight 30w in it.  Do they still sell STP.  I don't think I've used that since the 60's!

Now I've got to drain the gas tank and get some good gas in it.  Maybe get it licenced next week and take it around the block.  Vroom Vroom.

Yes they sell STP......I used to to fill my steering box on the 32.

Jake, Don’t forget to grease the rear axle bearings. They don’t get any lube from the ring and pinion. Should be some zerks right next to the backing plates.

Thanks for the info Tom.  I'm sure there are all kinds of zerks to grease under there.  Not like the cars of today.  I still like to change my own oil on all my cars.....and whille I'm under there grease and check everything out.....but there are no zerks.   This should be fun.  

Drained the gas tank today and put in a few gallons of Premium.  Hooked up all the lines with a filter in line.  Drove to the backyard again and cleaned out the inside a little.  Cut out the headliner as it was drooping pretty well.  Will get license tomorrow and maybe take a little cruise around the block.

It makes me feel like I'm about 16 again.....well almost.....

 It was a little hairy for about an hour last night when the last couple inches (of seven) came down in about 10 minutes.  Backyard was under water, shop had about an inch in it (everything high and dry), and the water was up about three feet into the boulavard.  We had a little seepage in one corner of the basement, but kept that at bay and headed to the sump.  Had to plug all the basement sewer lines which is a pain, but better safe than sorry.  I never want to experience '97 again.  Spent most of the day putting the basement back together and cleaning up the yard and such.

But ended the day with about a half hour cruise in the '35.     Most of it spent in the big parking lots at the college.  Lots of room to check it out. Fun!  I will think more seriously about hydraulic brakes.  Mechanical ones are not much to rely on.  I'm getting pretty good at double clutching from second back into first though. HO HO HO.

Got the '35 up in the air on jack stands and started to remove the drums to look things over....fronts easy...rears on real good....read some tech on the hamb and I guess you need a special puller or a special nut driver and BFH....I've got the BFH, but need a puller or one of those special nuts.

Any of you got something I can borrow? Or an idea that will work???

I have a puller that has worked for many a stuck drum.

You get them "Flathead Ted" brakes installed??

I got all the new pads installed, everything cleaned up, all the Flathead Ted parts in, drums turned, new wheel studs (longer to accept the spacers being made so I can use regular wheels), bearings packed, new grease zerks (including the rear axle ones - thanks), all reinstalled, three connecting rods all adjusted with new supports, and looking to a 6pm test drive last night when on the last connecting rod (LR) things went south.  :cry:

Broke the end off the connecting rod! No big deal...I'll just take it off from the other end like I did the fronts and weld a bolt on the end....NO!!  The front end of the rear rods is a real headache to get at...Up high in front of the X.  And the pin is not budging....So after swearing quite a while, I juiced it up good, and had a beer and cigar! So I'll look at it fresh tonight and hopefully at least get it apart.  Looks like both rear rods need to have the front ends rebuilt and a new pin.

So after getting the rear brake connecting rods out, I rebuilt the front eyes, the adjusting end of one and made a new pin for the front.  Got it all back together and took a test drive Fri. afternoon.

Not great....maybe a little better than before the big rebuild....

So I tightened up the adjustment on all four wheels and took another test drive.....WOW, it worked.  The brakes now stop the car about 200% better and I can actually lock up the left rear.  So after they have worn in with a little more driving, and just a hair more adjustment on the other three they should be great.

It was a little work, but less time and money than converting to juice and they really work nice now.

Here's the spacers the machine tooling dept. is making me so I can mount solid, later year steel wheels on the '35.  The hubs have a small risen nub inside the bolts and match up with the '35 wires.  This spacer raises the outer rim even with the  raised nub to make a flat surface.  I added longer lugs to compensate. It's about 7/32" thick.
