Chop A top

I am not sure if I am in the correct section for this question, but I will toss it out.  I decided to build my model A truck.  I would like to chop it, but I have never tackled a project like that.  Any suggestions on this (who should I talk to, have someone else do it???)?  Thanks for all the help.

You can do it yourself. I have done several now (not pickups) , just remember to measure twice , cut once.  You will need a little mig welder, die grinder with cut off wheels and a sawzall. Depending on what year it is you may need to cut some relief cuts in the rear cab corners to make every thing line up. You also may need either a porta power or come-a-long to align the "A" pillars depending on how much you take out of the roof.

Also remember they are not the most spacious truck in the word so make sure you will fit in it when your done. But then again if you are going to chop it make sure everyone know it is chopped! :mrgreen:

It is a 31.  I was not going to channel it because I am 6'2" and am not sure If I would fit.  I would like a heavy chop on it, but I am not sure how realistic that would be.  Maybe if I just sit on the floor I would be able to see as I drive .  I wish I was in Fargo, the help would lower the stress level. Any suggestions on chopping my 31 model A truck would be great.  Thanks again.

Well there is one of us on here who lives in Bismarck. I have chopped one convertible and two roadsters and made folding tops for two of them. Not the same as a hard top but I have widened the front fenders on my '40 chevy 1 1/2". On my '26 T I narrowed the body 4" and lengthen it 2". I might be able to help you out.

This fall sometime im gonn ahve to arrange a Walkers tour and a party one night, and invite you all to come down and chop my Dads A, as a suprise or something.  I am sure we could do it, but having people there that have done it before would sure help.

You will probably be sitting on the floor or really close to it.  I used the 3rd seat out of a dodge colt vista van in my coupe.  I think you should be able to do a 4 inch chop if you are 6'2".  I would get your seat first and then see how much head room ya got and cut it out.
