what can we do and what cant we do here in Minnesota???

I'm getting hassled for no fenders but I thought we were a fair weather state so if it wasnt raining we were OK...

How bout Bumpers?

whats the skinny-
where do I find it in writing?

Dosent the Linechaser have a bylaws section stating the laws that pertain to the Hobby?

i thought ive seen them in there. theres no way Minnesota has a fender law... they have a damn street rod license plate.

I just went thru an official state of minnesota safety inspection last june.
I Have a glass T bucket, got everything, electric wiper, emergency brake proper lights, turn signals, four ways neutral safety switch, horn and seatbelts. No fenders and no bumpers. Passed with flying colors. I dont think you even have to have a plate on the front.. Good luck!! Paul

I have yet to see anything on paper ar far as rules on paper from the state of minnesota..

Equipment regulations as long as you have plates, which I do- go by the year of the car. So whatever year the car was made- I go by the equipment regulations that were on the books in 1934... and there were none.

Here it is if anyone wants to print it out and carry it with them...

Subd. 1f. Equipment. Any pioneer, classic, collector vehicle, collector military vehicle, or street rod shall have all equipment, in operating condition, which was specifically required by law as a condition for its first sale after manufacture.

No law requiring any particular equipment or specifying any standards to be met by motor vehicles shall apply to pioneer, classic, collector vehicles, collector military vehicles, or street rods unless it specifically so states.

Tuck, why don't you Xerox that statute and laminate it and carry it with you. That's what most guys here in Illinois do for the Antique Plate law that lets you run year of manufacture plates as long as you carry your current plates with you, like under the seat. Most of the fuzz here in Illinois doesn't know the law, and they just stop you and try to tell you you can't run out of date plates. :shock:

That's what I do for the state of ND. I haven't had to use it yet, but I know others who have.

I can't believe that with the number of Muscle cars, customs, restored cars, street rods, home-builts, and of course Hot Rods the cops who run traffic all the time don't know the few laws that apply. Like, you can't make someone have more safety equipment on their car than when the car was manufactured. That's pretty simple, and a Federal Law. Or they don't have more to do like ticketing jerks who almost cause crashes, or idiot soccer moms driving land yachts while doing their make-up and talking about reality shows on their cell phones and cut off people because their 2007 'Sclaid didn't come with turn signals. :x

i believe that the only thing about non-original items is that if you do add them to the vehicle -they have to work properly

I got a reply from the cop saying that he sent a pic of my car to someplace in MPLS and they said I had to have fenders, bumpers, and signals...

WHICH my reply was DID YOU EVEN READ THE STATUTES?

I think this is a case of I'm the cop and I'm right, your wrong.

I asked him for documentation why
and that if I alone was misinterpreting the law thats one thing...
but to have thousands of people in the state doing it thats another...

the sheriff called me and said not to worry about it, he would talk to the cop, but I think this guy has an axe to grind.

I printed that out on card stock and its in the car-
