One more update before I put it away for the winter. I have been fighting the top since before I painted the car. I bought the top iron off the Ford Barn for some jhole that said they were complete and had been hanging on a barn wall for 30+ years.....well the barn must have fallen down somewhere around the 1 year mark cuz they were pitted to hell and frozen AND he had removed a few of the rivets. So I got them to move and ordered top bows from Lebaron Bonney. The header bow fit fine, the rear bow was a little tight; I had to pull hard on it to spread it to get it on to the car. The second bow was the one that has been giving me so much trouble. It would not fit for shit. I even ordered another one from Lebaron Bonney thinking that they had just pulled the wrong one, but it was the same.
A few weeks ago at the Pileup the vendor next to us had a 30-31 roadster top (bows and cloth) I walked over and looked at it a few times and noticed the second bow sure looked like what I needed on my top. I picked it up for 90 bucks. (about the cost of 1 bow).
Well after all is said and done it on the car. I have 30-31 irons (which I paid 32 ford price for) 30-31 rear and second bow and a 32 header bow which I had to modify. The 30-31 irons put the bow farther forward than the 32 ones so I had to make a filler on the back side between the windscreen and the bow.
I chopped the rear leg of the irons 3" and took about 1.5" out of the rear bow. I also took 2" out of the forward leg of the irons to get it to line up with the laid back windscreen.
I was going to use the cloth I got with the top but the rear corner pieces just will not work with out being reworked.
