So I was able to get the body shop again the weekend before xmas. I got permission to use it on Thursday so I only had two nights to prep the grill shell, tank and hood tops. I had hoped to paint the hood sides at the same time and be done with all this paint shit but I just didn't have time to get them ready. I needed to drill the holes for the headlight conduit and didn't know what size they were originally so I had asked the question on the HAMB. I did get the answer so Saturday morning I set out to drill the holes. I ran all over town looking for the correct bit (which I failed to find) but ended up using what I had. I flipped the shell over on the stand and found this nice sticker that told me what size the holes were supose to be. Oh well at least I  upped the post count on the HAMB ;)

Got it all in primer and then in sealer at the body shop and all was going well. I had a small "flow check" in the tank so I let it dry untill late Sunday night when I sanded it out and started to lay the paint on.

Then I screwed up.....lack of sleep or over confidence....not sure or a combination of the two. I ran the paint down one entire side of the grill shell. It was about 10 pm and I was pissed. Finally I remembered I was in a body shop and dug around for one of their quick dry heat lamps. Set it up and cooked the shit out of it for about a half hr and then sanded out the run and resprayed the shell. I didn't get home till about 12:30 but it was worth it to have it done.

The reason you can't see the run in the pick is I took thinner and wiped off all I could to help speed up the dry time.

I took the three days after xmas off to work on the car. It took me almost two full days to sand and buff the stuff I painted.

Here are a few pics. I use 4 stages of polishing, the first pic is a hood half wet sanded with 1000 grit and then sanded again with 1500. Some 2000 would make buffing easier but I didn't have any. Then I start with and aggressive compound working my way to the final glaze.

The next day was spent getting the fuel gauge to work. I have never had a fuel gauge in one of my cars that worked so I wanted this one to WORK. The first sender I got from MNHRH was the wrong pattern for my tank. Tim sent me another one which worked great. Got it installed and tested and I will for once be able to know when I am out of fuel.....I'm sure I will still run out.....

The rest of the day was spent installing the cowl and grill shell lace. I finally figured out they didn't send me the correct hardware for the cowl lace and had to make two of my own brackets. The upper one came with the kit and the lower one is the one I had to make two of.

Here is how it sits now. I have had a few set backs like parts not showing up and breaking some stuff and the most frustrating ...... not being able to find shit that I know I have.

I also got the voltage reducers for the gauges and made a harness so I can unplug the cluster and pull it out if I need to.
