Since 1997 every second year at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, they have included a hot rod class. This year's hot rod class was devoted to dry lakes racing cars. As always, this is one of our favorite events and it was just as spectacular as previous years. Making up the class was the Fred Carrillo roadster, the Spurgin-Giovanine roadster, the Crawford-Stoner roadster, the Jim Khougaz roadster, the Williams Brothers roadster, the Ralph Schenck streamliner, the Eddie Miller streamliner, the Chet Herbert streamliner, and the So-Cal Speed Shop bellytank.
Here are some of our snapshots from the event. Be on the lookout for full event coverage in an upcoming issue.
Crawford-Stoner 1932 Ford Roadster. Owner: Chuck Longley, Deland, Florida. Recently restored by Chuck Longley, the Crawford-Stoner roadster was selected as one of the top ten SCTA hot rods ever built. Ken Crawford who is shown sitting in the driver's seat remarked that he hadn't seen the car in 65 years. Interestingly, this car was first shown in the September 1947 issue of Look Magazine in a feature on dry lakes racing.
