He does know that machining the bells alone is about $200 bux. He is just ordering new axles from Moser.
If you have to have the machine work done it's goin to be spendeeeeeee.
The HOT Rod mag article is from Nov. 1960. They used '49 to early'51 Merc so they could keep the 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern. Beside machining the carrier you need to grind down the axle gears to fit inside the carrier.
Got to thinkin it was Randy Zeller who told me to use 49-51 Ford. He had done it and said the spiders and axle gears didn't mesh that good.
My new ROD and Custom was in the mail when I got home last night. They show the Hot Rod Works doin this. I think if you got their side gears they would mesh better.
Interesting, the old HOT Rod article showed how to do it with junk yard parts, the new mag shows how to do it with advertiser's parts. :roll:
