Oil Question?

Just finished slipping a 307 into the 56 moredoor, I had to pull the 283 out for curiousity cause the oil pressure at idle was just about nothing. This was the motor that went to Illinois and back...Was surprised to find it internally in pretty nice shape though...Although it had a 60cc head on one side and a 69cc head on the other. I guess I cant whine cause it was a free motor after all. My question is with this new elimination of Zinc in all the motor oils , what is everyone running in their old motors? I think Mr. Huber and I touched on this once but I cant recall what he said he was using, I think it was some type of diesel oil...anybody know? thanks Weed

wayne at quality engine told me to run rotella....I think it still has zink. I run it in my flathead.

I think Wayne uses a different oil instead of the rotella diesel oil now. Never heard of the brand nor can i remember it, but he has cases of it.

I don't know what the oil would have to do with low oil pressure. The zinc is to protect the flat tappets on the camshaft, not bearing clearances. I'd check my main bearing clearances first if it were me. If you do, could you let us know what they are?

I guess I should have clarified myself better....I know low oil pressure has nuthin to do wit the zinc elimination, I was just wondering what to use on all my old motors nowadays. As to the low oil pressure, I think most of it was from sludge and possibly loose clearences. I have not checked the clearences yet though...That a winter project fer me...
