Title: 41 Ford front end
Post by: roadtriprod on March 05, 2009 10:16 PM
I am wondering if a guy can start pulling out every other leaf to lower the spring height? Is there a scource in Fargo that can make a cheap reverse eye lowered spring? I know they are reasonable in the mags but I think shipping would be half the price of the spring....
What other tricks do I need to know to make my 36 Ford or 41 ford donor front ends more streetable and reliable.
I have already dug up some good stuff on splitting the wishbones.
Also I am looking for 48 and later F1/F100 Pickup brakes kinda cheap.
I have a  41 Flathead with a 3 speed and a 4 door body if you know anybody looking

I think that the spring would be too soft if you removed every other spring.  I would take a couple off the top of the stack at the most.
Sko on here made a tool to reverse the eye on the main leaf just using a small bottle jack.  I used that to reverse the eye on my roadster's main leaf.  If I remember right I had to shorten the leaf above the main leaf too.

Great Idea heating and fliping the eyes. I suppose you couldnt eliminate the next spring on top of it to gain clearance?

Here's the HAMB tech link I used for info to reverse the eyes on my '35 Tudor.  I think '35s and '36s are almost identical.

I had the use of a press which made it about a 15 minute job.  Worked great.  I reversed the eyes and took out three leaves.  Two were the second and fourth from the top and the third was the one right above the main leaf.

It dropped two inches.  Worked great.  Check page three on this post:
