I believe these are the same size and depth when the 235 pump is a longer shaft like the one on my engine. I may just get a shorter water pump, but I'm better off pushing the rad forward for clearance with the longer one.

Years ago I did what you are proposing, and I recall just pushing the hub down on the shaft farther with a press and using a shallower pulley off a 327 or maybe a 283. It worked very well. Also I recall doing just a tad bit of grinding on the waterpump where the pulley just kissed it...

There is a press in the shop....
I still may need a pulley then. I'm going to get the original one from the guy I bought it from to get some measurements/ weigh my options. Thanks Weed.
