Title: The Winfield Weekend!
Post by: JakesBackyard on May 25, 2010 1:50 am
The Gene Winfield workshop was great. Fantastic information and Gene spews out automotive history as if it was yesterday. I thought he might be the "Energizer Bunny".  The guy never slows down and just keeps moving from one excersise to the next. Here's a few photos from the workshop.

Well Tracy if you watch closely whenever he does one of these seminars and someone post pics the hair color is never quite the same. I blame it on the lighting. But to give credit where it’s due, he still has hair to dye!!!

Hey Jake, looks like you had no trouble filling up. What did you have done on your car??   And thanks for the pics.

There were 45 people with Gene and the three of us from NDSCS. It really went well.

Gene used my car to go through the steps in chopping the top.  At one point he grabbed the sawzall and went up to a pillar like he was going to go ahead and cut....trying to get a rise out of me.  I just told him he'd have to stay another few days to get the job done!

The fade paint demo was very interesting also.  He did four of the small panels...one each in blue, green, purple and gold.  He's a true old style painter.....a little of this tint....a little of that tint till he likes the look.

He stayed with me for the three nights and all he wants to do is work and talk.  We stayed up way past my bedtime and talked and talked.  The stories are truely facinating.

It was another one of those "once in a lifetime" events for me.

Thanks to everyone that participated.

Where did he fly into.........Fargo??

I picked him up in Fargo on Fri. night and dropped him off in Fargo Mon. morning.  He was supposed to leave Fargo at 11am.......he called me at 2pm and said he was back in Fargo....I guess some plane blew a tire landing in MPLS and they shut down for a time so they came back to Fargo to refuel.  So I'm not sure when he got back to CA.  I'll have to call him and see if he made it home.

His last words to me when I left him were "I think we should do this again next year."  We'll have to see. We did have a person in the class that said he'd spring to chop his Merc.....Any one interested in a chopping workshop?

If I cleared over ten grand in two days I sure as hell would want to come back. :)

Who was the guy in the picture? I am sure he was taling about Tim's place. I know he doesn't have much for metal shaping tools.

The picture he was referring to and going to get was a picture of some special tools he liked.

That anvil he was hammering on is the inside half of a stainless pipe elbo he found in our welding dept. and loved. We took him over to the welding shop and he found all kinds of stuff to make tools out of.

That was a fun time.  Anyone have pictures of the fade demo or leading excercises?

Put down the pipe and go back and look at Jakes pictures.

It was a great weekend, learned lots, makes me want to get out to the scrap yard and start making some of the shaping tools he had.
