So I started working on this 6 months ago and it has finally come to a working date. I'm sure many of you have read about Gene's workshops on the HAMB.
May 22-23, 2010 at NDSCS in Wahpeton.
It could be:
(1) a two day general sheet metal work shop.
or
(2) a two day chop a top with a little general sheet metal working thrown in as allowed.
Cost is $175 per day. $350 for the two days.
Cheap housing (I think it's $15 a night or less) on campus for those who might need it.
Hot or cold lunches for about $6.
Before I commit to this.....do you think there would be enough interest and could it go? Date is a little later than I had hoped, but still doesn't interfere with any runs, I think.
Thanks and let me know what you think...good/bad.

We will be doing a Winfied workshop at Hot Rod Hardware on Feb 6 & 7th. We will be chopping my 40 Merc. We just got the dates from Winfied today but didn't want to post it yet until we nail down a few details but I thought I better post it as an FYI.

I had heard that and thought it was already firmed up. Figured since you hadn't said any more that it must be full or something. Hope this won't screw that up...I didn't mean to do that. I think it is a far enough distance away that they should both work. I just heard from Julie today also.
Just looking for input....Thanks.

Jake, I might do both. what you gonna be chopping? They are far enough apart, in distance and time i dont think it will be an issue.

Right now it can either be a "top chop" or general "metal working class". Gene told me the straight metal working class is designed so each person gets more exposure to each of the many areas of his expertise. When a top is chopped, that is the main focus and other areas are touched on as time allows. That's why I'm asking for input.
That and at this moment we don't have a top to chop lined up. If there is interest in the general class and can fill up the 2 days (20 min. @ day) that might be the way to go. You can participate in one day or both. If there is someone out there who would like a top chopped by Gene Winfield, I'm listening. The top chopped runs a good chunk of change, but gets the owner the class as well. And if it sounds like there is more interest in a top chop then I'll go to work finding a car to chop.
You can reach me at work # or leave a msg. 701-671-2480
Thanks.....Jake

Hey Jake I'll give you a call.
-
I'd definitely be interested in the one at NDSCS. Sheet metal workshop or top chopping, doesn't matter to me.
-
Damn, chopping the top is badass, but the general metal workshop would be more applicable to most people for random projects, IMHO.
Jake, I'd prefer the metal clinic with no top chop.
I'd be interested in both classes like Aaron.
And its like $3500 or so to get a top chopped last time I asked if its for the class. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes this is what I would like also.
-
I think the metal class would be better also.

You can count on two (Tom and Joel Davis) for the NDSCS class Jake!

I have decided to take the money I would have spent on the class and buy more tools. I have started already, got another hammer, two dollies, slapping hammer, hand held air power metal shears, bull’s-eye pick, and a few more vise grips with the swivel pads.Been looking at getting a shrinking disc too.

Thanks Joel.....Tom, think of the fun and fellowship. Think of it like a weekend run. Won't spend any more money than you would at a good run. You never know Gene might even demonstrate on some GM tin.

I'll take Tom's spot

It doesn't say anything in that link that they are no longer chopping a 40 merc coupe. Won't that lead some astray?
-
I'm sure it will but not my deal. Tim sent me an email and they are almost filled up.

Got word from Gene Winfield today that he will do a demo on his famous fade painting while he's here at NDSCS for the metal workshop in May. 8)

Same weekend as the 10th Anniversary for the Reliablilty Run in the Black Hills. So I will be spending more. :)

:( That's too bad. Plywood was thinking about it also, so that will probably kill it for him also. You'll have a good time on the run also....hopefully it is done snowing by then!
