Well, we finally did it. Many of you know this car, and its history and our plans to get her back on the road.
I'll let the pics speak for themselves...

Outstanding!! As a two-door long roof affectionado, I've been wondering if you would put it back on the road. That's great....what are the general plans?
Wish I could get someone to clean up my mess.......?
-
looks like ya got the ride height set:) ready for the 302?
-
I heard about the 302 but what are the other plans for it?
-
Cool, lookn' forward to updates on this one.
-
Yeah, its getting a 80s 302/AOD. Thats the main part. While its out, I want to clean up the engine bay and paint it all. Oh, and brakes would be nice option. (It was interesting coasting it down the hill and into the garage without brakes!) We would like to find a narrower rear end for it so it can get lowered and still be able to remove the tires. Right now with the stock size bias plys, it is a major pain without it being lowered. Figure out a better setup to lower the front. Get that done, theres lots of cancer to repair. The quarters are needing help, rockers and front fenders need replacing, and a couple patches in the floor. VERY mild shave, emblems and thats about it. Then on to PAINT! I've got ideas. It will rule.
-
im excited! get it done for the hamb drags and we'll cruise in that instead of the rollerskate (yaris).. or we can bring the yaris too, im sure it will fit in the trunk!
-
Man I love wagons, this thing will rule!
-
I see it's at dad's place, that should be a good thing, right?? Should beat the hell out of the fair weather garage.
Get it running good 1st. ( motor, brakes ect. ) and if you run out of money or time hang the old sheet metal on and go!!!
-
I agree with Tom. Looks like a fun project and I'm excited (and suprised) to see it started so soon! I didn't think you were going to get to it for a while! (per btt50's conversations) hopefully we'll see another update in the coming months!
-
never heard of the darn thing, looks sweet! roadtrip mobile?
-
Well, another week of progress. This is the time where it looks like a LOT of work done in short order. Now it will be all the cleaning up and mocking up. The crap nobody notices but needs to get done.

Steering out thanks to Eyeball Tech line. And start of the lifting the body. Did you know these cars have 22 mounting points on them!

Next is a trip to Schefters and then figure out the plan for suspension.
What do you guys think of this, no Caddy caps, tho. Darker green than it was with a white and abalone flake roof.

-
Yeah, no Caddy caps, they are over done. You know I have some 15" wide whites for sale.
Hey what happend to your Chevy Wagon??
-
Holy Chit!! You're getting serious about this thing. Body off and all. Lookin great. :)
-
The Caprice is still at Driven, the plan is to work on that during the week, and work on the Ford when I go back home.
Yeah, we want to do this thing right. There are so many things that I cut corners on with the Stude. I vowed I would NEVER build a car that way again.
-

-
Yeah, I've been looking into that today, also.

Yeah I have cut corners too and reget it every time.

Well lookee lookee..another update!!! I really like the plans... low is the way to go! Color combo looks good too!
-
The interior is REALLY nice, trying to preserve it so I dont have to mess with it. Stock is two tone green vinyl.

Yeah, I've thinking heavily about those too. We'll see. They are about the same price.
-
it would ne interseting to know the weight and load diffrences

So, got some work done on the Ford this weekend, nothing real exciting, but got the motor in place and notched the K-member for the trans. I made some templates to build a transmission mount off of the stock K-member. I had to grind the hell out of the driver side exhaust manifold to clear the steering box. I don't know if it is enough yet, as the motor will torque towards it, but we'll see when it gets closer to that point. Good news is that the Lincolns 302 oil pan clears the front crossmember really nice and have an ideal amount of room for fan and radiator, etc.
-
Awesome. Did you snap any pics of the motor mounts? And do you have to run a remote oil filter?
-
I used the stock Lincoln motor mounts and just opened up the holes a little bit in the mount towers on the frame. Was pretty slick. It looks like I have just enough room to pull the oil filter off without needing a remote filter. Here are a couple pics I took:
The one is the notch I made in the K-member. The other is the amount I needed to remove from the exhaust manifold
-
I found this pic and am in love with the paint.
-
I like flames, but I have always loved scallops. For some reason they just seem to say 50's.
Keep up the progress Ryan. :)
-
that paint is where its at. a nice influence to have going into a project such as yours! i like!
