I put the rollpan in over christmas break.- I'll have pics up later today. does anyone know of someone who does stainless bumpers ie. nerf bars, etc?
-
How about an update.
-
I'll put one up over next weekend. I'm trying to play magician and go "tada!" it drives! Just working on some block sanding right now...
-
dude, that cars gonna be so sweet. . . . can't wait!
-
I've been waiting 1/3 of my life...
-
Thats nothing. I've been waiting 3/5th of my life for my '40!
Can't wait to see yours.
-
I think I'm going to get this tach for the '40. It's beautimous!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220208969438
-
thats cool. my westech tach has a weird plug on the back that i cant get a plan for
-
This one looks like everything's there but the wire. I'm agonna win!
-
2 hrs to go, you do not appear to be winning........
-
$150 tach kinda spendy, why not a wings SW tach should be cheaper and have a warranty
-
I think a rossism should be created to explain why we value old shit with no warranty over new shit that looks old and has a warranty. Why many of us would rather drive an old station wagon vs. a new suburban, etc.
-
I've got bills to pay...so I let that one slide.
-
Here are some pics of the new paint booth that my pops and I built a couple weekends ago- it works well and measures 16'x8' so I can fit the body in it when that needs to get painted.
While I was block sanding everything my Dad built the exhaust. I wanted the pipes to exit under the running board right before the rear fenders. Hopefully my wide whites will get dirty faster this way...
The engine pics show the Davis Custom fuel block and line. Don't worry, the oil lines are temporary!
-
very nice.
-
LQQKN' Good. Why did you mount the fuel block so high on the firewall?
-
Your dad stopped into the Backyard on Friday and told me you were making progress and hope to drive it to Devils Run. It's looking good.
-
LQQKN' Good. Why did you mount the fuel block so high on the firewall?
Good question Eyeball, now here's my reasoning:
a. I wanted it to be mounted on the higher vertical part, not on the angled part
b. It's actually a good couple inches from the top edge where the hood sits
c. I wanted to make it harder for myself when it came time to install a wiper motor, as I filled in those holes and the fuel block mounts from the backside just about where the wiper motor mounts would have been..
d. I didn't buy all that red fuel line just to use a couple feet- I want to SEE that stuff!
-
Hopefully I'll be able to get all of the bodywork done by the third week in april. Then it can go into assembly.
-
Just be sure to keep a CLOSE eye on that red fuel line. Probably need to change it out almost every season.
-
Fine with me!
-
yeh --i"m not sure, but if i remember, right that line doesn't pass nsra saftey inspection
-
Damn rat rodders.
-
SNAP! Now you're just making yourself look bad- letting a rat rodder into the club!
I'm stickin' to it...
-
SNAP! letting a rat rodder into the club! quote]
I don't think so.......didn't I see where you and dad bulit built a paint booth.
-
flatty looks SHARP, you seem to know your way around a striping brush well
-
Thanks! I've got a lot of practicing to do yet, but it all takes time. I will have pics of my flathead with the finned aluminum heads up next sunday night. I'll probably have pics up of the exhaust also...we'll see!
-
Here's an update on the '40...some of this should be black next week...
-
UPDATE!!! For those of you I haven't talked to... The '40 is GOING to DEVIL'S RUN!!!
I'm so excited I can't think straight- I've been in Koolsville most of the time these last few days... I'll have pics up thursday night! I promise... :)
-
HELL YEA!
-
I was just about to email ya and see if you were going to make it to Devil's Run. I'll be there camera in hand.
-

-
I'll believe it when I see it. :D
-
I'll believe it when I see it. :D
I might have some pics up of the car tonite, and then sun. night or mon. night I'll put up some pics of Devil's Run. I'm kinda suprised I could sleep last night- if I sleep tonight it'll be a miracle...
-
Maybe you’ll get interviewed by the MY Classic Car guy, and you will be a star.
-
Here are a few pics...enjoy!
-
killer dude
-
THats awesome! I dig the hubcaps. Throw some 'shine in the back and go! Such a shame the heads are warped, I'm sure you'll hate putting the sharps on. :)
-
They're scheduled to go on Thursday...I can get new head bolts and washers from CAT...wait a minute...Andy works there and gets a discount on that stuff!... and I'll probably put new stats in while I'm at it too- I don't know if these are clogged with shit or what...
-
Kick Ass Joel. Congrats, This is your 1st hot rod, right??
-
Yup! I've been working on it since I was 15...It's been a long time coming! The first of many I hope! I'm planning on going to B/M next weekend if I get the cooling problem figured out... I might even stripe it there!
-
You NAILED the stance! Great job man!
-
get it done early thursday and bring it to the meeting. Cant wait to see it.
-
If you have not MET Joel I can tell you he is a tall lad. To give you an idea, he took this just standing by his car!
-
Excellent Joel!! Congrats on getting her mo-bile....
-
FANTASTIC Joel. It looks great. '40 Tudor with no hood. That thing just oozes early 50s!
-
Isn't the meeting on wednesday??? Thanks for all the compliments! (I'm sure there will be criticism too...) !
-
wow, that looks great. i really like it
-
A little update... I don't know who knew this, but I tore out 1st gear (about 4 teeth) last August and now the '40 is on the road again. Look for it terrorizing a neighborhood near you!
-
Note to self: The '40 will be painted Hot Hues Sierra Gold just like George Poteet's '40 pick 'em up.
-
I happened to come across this today... what do ya'll think? This is pretty much what I'll be going for... With Safari caps instead of baby moons... and LOUVERS!
-
I like the color......... I am looking at the same color for the Merc or at least something close to that but may go black too..........................
-
Lovers in the hood??? and a cowl vent= heat inside the car when the vent is open.
-
Lovers in the hood??? and a cowl vent= heat inside the car when the vent is open.
True hot rod thinking Tom.
Joel & Tim, I've got that similar color that will go on my A some day. It's figured out to be a base/clear. The sealer serves as the base color. Saves one step and comes out in that gold candy.
This pic looks a little orange, but outside its that pagen gold look.
I got the original formula from John Kosmoski in HOK formula and I figured it out in PPG Global. Can probably be done with Deltron as well. The HOK formula is the one Brizio's painter uses for all those great gold cars.

Lovers in the hood??? and a cowl vent= heat inside the car when the vent is open.
True hot rod thinking Tom. .
No Jake...true hot rod and DRIVEM thinking!!! I have spent as much as 10 and 12 hours straight driving to or from an event in some of my piles. On a hot July or August day that cowl vent can be dam important. Oh yeah........ cars with AC aren't hot rods!!
And Joel I like the color.

The cowl vent will be great on those July/Aug days.....but I'd duct tape off the louvers during July/Aug.....

I could paint both of my hoods gold... That way I can simply switch them in the hot months from the louvered one to the non-louvered one...
Jake- I'll be happy to have your expertise on hand when the '40 gets painted. It will be very nice to have the facilities at NDSCS to paint in too!
-
That'll look great with those chrome inners
-
I was thinking the same thing....
-
this will be bitching.
-
Thanks Brandon- My goal is to have the bitchinest '40 sedan in the Valley...

I forgot to get a picture of it after they got the inner fenders on. I was pretty out of it.
-
So the inner fenders went in b4 the paint? I would have done the same thing.
-
I hadda do it... when I get the heads back (cross your fingers for this week) I'll post some high-def naughty shots of the engine bay.
-
Well I sold the Sharp heads as I'm going to build a new engine for the '40 this winter and have a very special set of heads picked out. The '40 is now at NDSCS and I will start posting pictures next week of interior progress, etc...
-
Here are some shots of the interior that I took yesterday. As you can see, diamond pleating is prevolent and it will get dirty very easily.
-
That's lookin real cool Joel.

WOW!!! Looks like that class is paying off. Panels look great! And I really like the firewall cover. Keep up the good work.
-
Thanks Mr. Serious and Mr. Flatheaded! Hopefully it'll end up being nice enough that someone out there will want to get their interior "bitchinized" by Davis' Classy Ass Threads and Vinyl Co. Oh yeah...
-
Josh- the firewall cover just made sense... I saw it in the little pages somewhere. Glad you like it!
-
That is lookin' great Joel! Good call on Diamonds.
-
Thanks Stefan! I think it was the right thing to do too.
-
The interior looks awesome!
-
Very nice job. The interior looks great.
-
Thanks and thanks! Vinyl is backordered now... windows will be in soon.
