Heres my dAds Model A Coupe, Been working on it quite a bit lately.
3.5 inch chop, Hes replacing all the wood with Steel.
Custom 2x6 .120 Wall Rect. Tube Chassis. 364 Nailhead, with Hurst motormounts and Tranny Adapter for GM manual.
Plans are for a late ('64)Gm 3speed and overdrive.
Supposedly this motor is an old hotrod engine, thats got 12:1 Pistons been balanced and a hot isky Cam in it and everything. It does had a Sheifer aluminum flywheel onit. SO it could be true. IT came out of a 56 Chevy that a friend had, Still has the hurst adapter motor mounts on it that we are gonna reuse, and we traced it back to the guy that built it in the 60's.
The motor is topped by a early weiand 2x4 intake with twin WCFB small base carbs.
SHould be a lot of fun
Heres the pics.

i really like tos motor mounts both urse and the hurst ones

Ooooooo--that's NICE!! Overdrive--my favorite. I like the looks of everything.
The fully syncronized 3 speed saginaw w/overdrive was 1966-1969 or 70 available in passenger cars and pickups. The overdrive unit can be bolted to a saginaw 4 speed with a couple easy modifications. I have the recipe if your Dad is interested. Keith and I have a couple 4 speeds and OD transmissions awaiting this swap. I also have some good overdrive wiring diagrams I scored off the Inet.
-
I have the ingredients to make this dish so I would like to look at your cook book.
The CQQP is LQQKN' good, the engine looks GIANT in there.
-
Yea, i got the gear wrong, Dads got one of the newer Syncro 3speed/ODs to use... I tried to talk him into using it on a saginaw 4spd... He says the 364 will have more than enough torque to use the 3speed well enough.
overspray, i have a saginaw 4speed that i had behind a hot 250 I6 in my 49 chevy, that i want to make it a 4speed/OD for the 6, instead of going to a T5.... that would make a great tech Post...
-
my father in law has that or a simmilar setup behind a 327 in a 62 impala in line out at the farm
-
Here it is. One mistake in this article is that it must be the 66 and later fully syncronized 3 speed with overdrive. The 65 and down overdrives (GM) are shorter in the 3 speed box/case and not syncronized in 1st gear, thus the overdrive unit is different on these and will not swap to the 4 speed..

so my 65 OD will not work?
-
Not unless it is an early 66 dated late 1965. The gearbox on the full sync 3 speed is the same size as the 4 speed (saginaw) gearbox. The picture of Armstrong's chassis is the big (66 up) gearbox. Side by side there is noticable difference between the 65 and 66.

WE dont know yet, it might end up with a set of those Coker Raials that kinda look Bias.. he wants to drive it lots..
he has a set of 50 Streamlite Wheels for it, (think solid disc halibrands) but cast aluminum, that hold 46 Merc hubcaps..

that last pic is my dads tech on how to stretch a reversed eye rear spring.
-
Wow the ladder bar set up looks great! I also like the spring spreader idea.....didja think of that one yourself?
-
those ladder bar mounts are very sanatry
-
As far as I know the spring spreader is an original idea. I've got the chassis 90% done and am trying to get up the energy to get the sheetmetal shaped up a little. Fixing the body isn't my favorite thing, but no one else is going to do it for me. I'd be willing to do some pathetic begging if that would make someone feel sorry enough to come and do it for me.

heres some pics of His new Dash.. a Cookie to who can tell me what it is.

heres some pics of His new Dash.. a Cookie to who can tell me what it is.
He told but I cna't remember. Is it stude??
-
Naaa. Although Annes wagon is suddenly missing its guage pod.....
-
if didnt know your accesses better id say some one was looking at evels car
-
Yea... that kinda irked me, he beat us too it...
-
Yeah,I saw it on Evels' car,but the first one was at the Pile Up. It was in that super low roadster from Indianapolis. The one with the canvas top that he had doped with fiberglass resin. That's another idea worth stealing. It's pretty hard to do something original with so many really creative builders out there. What I'm saying is I copied the guy from Indy, not Evel!
-
no i'm not saying that parts of evels would be bad to copy. i'm gonna use thos bent lader bars. and hey you did it befor vol5 came out
-
Any more progress?
-
Nope, he did the subframe on the Buick and installed the 2link rear suspension in it...
-
Well, after a long wait the A is back under construction. I plan to keep on it until it is drivable. I'm reinforcing the body with some steel and finishing a lot of the things that were partly done. Here's a few pics.
-
Looks great! Looks like it is one nice body. Keep it up.
-
Thats great news Arch. I love the wires on there too but I know it is only temporary.

Best thing I have heard in a long time!! Custom built clutch, brake and shifter linkage!!! Looks kick ass!!!
-
Lookin gQQd Arch!! I agree with Eyeball.......love the wires on there!
-
Yeah, the wires are growing on me. The chassis is done with the exeption of shock mounts and panhard bars. I,ve got the seat and pedals where I want them and the steering column is next. I have a few issues with the firewall and dash first though. I have had to make a few compromises but things are fitting pretty good. Serious even fits! I'll update when there is something to show. Thanks for the encouragement.
-
REALLY Looking good Arch. Can't wait to see it on the road.
-
Arch, there was just a spy in your shop....I dropped off those square tube radius's for ya...it looks great
-
Looks like a HOTROD!
-
Holy cow, that looks awesome Arch! keep on it, can't wait to see it drivin'
-
very nice work...looks goood.
