Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on December 20, 2006 10:19 pm
Well I'm off and running on this.
I have the frame. I will be installing a 38 X member in it, in the pics it is just clamped to the bottom so I can decide where to cut it. I just got the firewall yesterday and had to clamp that sucker on too. (Tom we need to talk about it)
I sent my 59AB to the machine shop and am waiting to hear back if it is a good block. It was really nice inside so I have high hopes. It rolled over fine but had stuck rings on one cylinder and several stuck valves. I got my hands on a merc crank too which showed up yesterday.
This week I finally got the heavy 32 axle to part ways with the wishbone. That sob was on there. I had soaked and heated it for two week and when I finally got the pins out they were dry as a bone so the penetrating oil (gibbs, jb80, seafoam) didn't do a damn bit of good. I am going to have to totaly rebuild the wishbone, it looks like it was drug on the ground for 100 miles or so so there is only 1/2 of a ball left on the end. I located another cast yoke for the end of it in CA and it is on the way here.
I was hoping to use the ball mount on the 38 xmember but it just won't work. by the time it get the xmember in the correct place for the engine and tranny it is about 6" too far back so I will need to build a ball mount and mount it into the x member.
I also got the 39 pedal assembly rebuilt this week and painted up. It will be mounted in the x member in the stock location. The xmember will need a little modification since the pedals are a bit different than a 38 set but it should be easy.
That is all for now but there is more to come.

Wow an update already! I just got off the phone with Wayne at the machine shop and he said they did a quick magnaflux on the block and so far it looks crack free! I will be taking the crank in tomorrow and picking up my spindles which he fit the king pins for.

Well I had 5 days off to get a bunch done on the frame. Well that didn't happen. What I did get done was the rear crossmember tacked in place and after 3 days of trying to get the engine and the firewall to get along. I had to gut the xmember to get it to work with the 32 frame and 39 tranny. So Now I will have to make a new upper and lower plate to tie them together. I also had to chop the tranny mount up, removing about 1.5" to get it lower in the crossmember.
Here are a couple of cell phone pics.

My hope is that the bell end is the same as the later tubes and can be coupled to the tranny that way. Hey if you get it out could you lay a tape on it to see how long it is? Do you have a pic of the other end, or do you know if it is the same as the later rears so it will bolt up to the quickchange? I would hate to have you pull it if it won't work.
That frame dosn't have the wishbone on it does it?

Large Gary is a badassssssssssssss..............
Last night I got one of the plates made that will tie the X together. I now need to make one more and then decide if I am going to put them in the channel or on top and bottom of it.
Drilling holes in thick metal sux.
After I did the first one I remembered a trick.
Start your hole with a hole saw cut about a 32nd into the plate. Then take the plate out of the drill press and drill a bunch of 1/8" or so holes around where the blade is cutting. I drill about 15 or so around the 2.5" hole I was cutting. Now put it back in the drill press and resume cutting. It will cut allot easier and your hole saw will live to fight another day.

So here is the lesson for today.
I have been having a hell of a time finding front shackles for the car. I am using a Chassis Engineering spring and as it turns out aftermarket perches as well. Of course I want an original looking shackle. So I ordered a set from Early Ford. They are they type with the steel sleeve that has to be pressed into the spring and perch. They were looser than hell. So I come to find out that the original Model A used 11/16 bore on the spring and perch. All of the aftermarket stuff is 3/4". We also ran into this problem on Ross' car when the new 3/4" nylon bushings were too big for the stock A spring.
And now for the answer to the problem. You use the Model A front shackles with the bushings for the rear spring and perch which are 3/4". The front and rear bushings share the same ID with different OD. They are also 2.25" long so they length need to be trimmed back for the 1.75" front spring.

I got he x member tacked in and the plates I made to connect the two sides in place. I was going to rivet them in, so I picked up some rivets at the hardware store and dinked around with them for a few hrs  . Then I went back to the store and picked up these slot head bolts :) . Once my shackes bushings show up I will set it on all 4's and set the engine angle and make the motor mounts.
Title: Rivets
Post by: tracywiedrich on January 08, 2007 5:10 pm
Tim, something I was gonna do and havent tryed yet was I noticed that farm stores like TSC and Runnings etc have round headed bolts for sickle sections on grass mowers that look like rivets but are actually bolts with serrrated shoulders and nuts. From the top they look jus like rivets.

Here are a few pics of the steering box in place. I had to trim back a little of the x member to make room for it. Now it looks like the box is too close to the rear exhaust port. I see Reds headers makes headers for a 32 frame with a F1 box so I may end up ordering a set up. I do have a set of old headers I may try to modify too but I am not sure everything is in the correct spot yet.

I decided to weld a plate to the inside of the frame rail to mount the cross braces. They needed allot of surgery to work. They are also mounted upside down compared to how they were born. Once they were tacked in they eliminated frame flex I was getting when I jumped up and down on the center of the X.

Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on January 29, 2007 3:06 pm
I have decided to ditch the square back spindles and use '32 spindles. The 32's have an integrated steering arm so I don't have to use a bolt on steering arm. This meant I had to rework the top of the king pins since I am not going to be using mechanical brakes. I cut the ball of and then file finished the tops. That is about all I got done yesterday. I had to order a spacer kit that will allow me to run the juice backing plates on the early spindles. I have found that this kit is only made up of 2 model a piston rings and 2 model a valve seats but I didn't have any of those laying around.
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Tom on January 29, 2007 4:08 pm
Tim, I did the same with the 33-34 front end on my '28. Can't tell from the pic, how did you fill the hold that goes through the center of the king pin??
I knew about the piston ring, I didn't know the part that goes on the spindle was a valve seat. I ordered the kit from Speedway. It comes with no instructions. Didn't say anything about filling the holes in the backing plates and re-drilling new holes.
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on January 29, 2007 6:05 pm
I welded the top shut and built up the edge where the ball was. The directions I have seen say just to file the holes to fit. They look like they are very close to the edge. They also show using washers on the inside of the backing plate like this.
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Tom on January 29, 2007 7:04 pm
Yes they are close to the edge, that's why I welded them shut and re-drilled. You can use a smaller washer if you weld the old hole up.

Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Tom on January 29, 2007 9:10 pm
I don't remember having a problem with that. The seal rides on the new spacer that you add to the spindle. Right??
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on January 29, 2007 10:15 pm
Could be. The kit should be here tomorrow. The other set of 32 spindles I have have a steel seal and I see that is what is listed in the aftermarket/restorer catalogs too.

Post by: Eyeball on January 30, 2007 3:54 pm
The Vern Tardel motor mounts finally showed up and I got them installed last night. I will be replacing great looking hex head bolts with a round head something. I still have not found a rivet head with threads bigger than 1/4" so it will more than likely be a slot head. The engine has about a 1 or 2 degree rearward slope now which I can live with. Some people say to mount the motor flat with a torque tube and some say 3 degrees so who knows.

How about carriage bolts. knock down the square shoulder with a grinder. Going through two pieces of metal and a lock washer you don't need threads to go all the way to the head.

OK time for an update. Things changed on the front end. I decided to go with the old style tie rod ends that use the balls. I found a stock 32 drag link on the ford barn and then a guy off the HAMB came up with a stock 32 pitman arm. I have one re-pop ball on it and the taper is a little larger than original so I am looking for one (1) steering ball if anyone has one. Here is a pic of the steering in mock up.
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on February 26, 2007 6:03 pm
Now take peak at the above picture and look at the wishbone. See the big weld on it. The wishbone had been cracked before and fixed it was also dragged on the ground so the ball was only 1/2 there and some of the meat was missing from the bottom of the arms them selves. In the following pics you can see where I had to repair them. I sacrificed a Model A wishbone for the parts I need and it did turn out better then I had hoped.
You can also see in the pics the ball mound that I made using parts off the 38 xmember, some scrap metal and the tranny mount. It is now one piece and is removable if need be.

Didn't get too much done this weeked. I fought my water heater all day Saturday but did finish up the exhaust. I ordered POR15 exhaust coating in black. I think I will try to get it coated this week. Sunday I got the rear shock mounted and the arms bent to fit. They are mounted in the stock location but are front shocks for a 46-48 Ford.

Tim, do you have all your brake hardware inside that drum already? Thought I read somewhere just lately that the old non juicer drums dont clear the cylinders. Prolly was the 36 wide fivers, but not sure, jus curious. Looking really good and era correct.

No I have not put them together. I do have them on my 27 and they work fine. There is always storys about different combos not working but I have not run into any problems yet.

Eyeball- The exhaust system looks killer- I'll have to examine it personally to see what I have to do between the headers and frame/pedals. I agree with Racer on the fact that your ladies should get together for tea. my sister could learn a lot from mrs. eyeball. Lookin' good though!

The frame is now apart and waiting to go to the sandblaster. I also took the rear end apart to check the bearings and gears. Evey thing looks pretty good so I am going to send the rear to Watertown, SD to have Randy Gribble assemble the quickchange for me. I painted the axle tubes last night with enamel paint, 7:30 am I checked them..... still wet! I hope they dry by Saturday.

I also finished welding up and grinding the spring perch/shock mounts. I had to shorten them too on the threaded end as they were made so you can use the bolt on lower shock mount. Now they look like originals or at least close enough.

I could not resist snapping a pic of it tonight. The front end is under it again but there is no rear end and the body is still not flush on the frame cuz I have not worked up the courage to lay a cut off wheel to the trunk floor to open it up for the Model A rear crossmember. I ordered a Model A sedan floor panel to cover the spring and I may wait until it gets here to cut it......we'll see.
Also the top of the door is a 47". That was the highest point on the roof of my A sedan. I was planning on lever shocks but RANCHO dosen't list em!

Ok time for another update. I didn't get a bunch done but here ya go.
First off is the dash. I stripped it so I could see what I had to work with. Someone filled the window crank hole by brazing a penny in it and then filled another hole with the head of a sheet rock screw, and left the whole screw under the dash for you to jam your hand into. I had to take 2.5" out of the center of it to get the steering column in the right spot, then I took about the same off each end of it.
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on May 07, 2007 3:43 pm
Next I had to do somthing with then ends of it. I cut down the ends I had cut off and reworked them a bit and I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. Plus I got a nice sunburn from the welder!
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on May 07, 2007 3:45 pm
Here are a few shots of it from a little farther back and with the wheel in place. I will need to cut the column down a bit too.
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on May 07, 2007 3:49 pm
I also went an picked up my quickchange from Randy at Lake City Rod and Custom. I first took the spring stack apart and cleaned it all up. Then I installed the main leaf on the rear. I had to do it this way since my spring spreader will not work with the quickchange center section. Then I just put the rest of the stack on and clamped it together.
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on May 07, 2007 3:55 pm
Oops a few things I forgot to add. I did finally cut the rear floor for the rear crossmember to come through. I got a Model A sedan panel to cover it up and it fits perfect.
Then I had a problem. Once the hole was cut I pushed the rear of the body down and the damn cowl came up. It was like a teeter totter. It turns out that the stock floor had a storage pan under the seat that hangs between the rails. I 3 choices, one was to modify the x member to fit the body, or I could modify the pan to fit the x member. I chose option 3 which was to remove the pan. It was just riveted in so I drilled them out and then cut a flat piece of metal for under the seat.
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on May 07, 2007 3:59 pm
The next part was fun since the body had not been up on all 4 tires yet. The tires look like they are in the right place too me. If you run a straight line up they may be back slightly but I think it will work.
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on May 07, 2007 4:02 pm
Next I slid the gas tank in to see what was going to happen there. Sure as shit it will need to be cut. I had held out hope that the car was high enough that it would clear but no such luck. I hope to get that marked an ready to cut this week.

It seems to fit pretty good. I had to weld up an redrill the mounting holes on the drivers side cuz I had drilled them about 1/4 too far forward. I tried tightening the cowl down on those brass tabs on the front of the cowl and it pulls it in nice but then the doors don't work since I have not tightened the rest of the body down.

The guy with his foot on the tire is Morie Lamb (sp) , with the dark glasses behind Clarence was from Bismarck, passed away shortly after the pic was taken. The one kneeling by the tire and the one with the glasses, back and to the left are brothers ( but I can't remember their names  )
They were at a track in MN some place and they wouldn't let them run with out a hood. So they made up the hood you see in the pic.
Now back to Tim's build.

He quit high school and went to work, he's about 17 on that pic. Said he even worked for Clarence for awhile.

I also finished up the dash for the most part. I got my vintage Sun tach. I know it is only a 3500 rpm one but hope to replace it with a higher rpm one at some point but this will at least work when running down the highway. I still need a sender and then I will need to figure out how to power the sender as I have heard that the batteries have now been discontinued for them. I need an EB style sender 12V 8 cyl if anyone has one stuck away.

I had finished the steering up by shortening the column 2" and changing the splined end out for the tapered keyed end. I was not happy with the way the wheel looked from the back side. It was originally designed for the column shift and had a bell on the back. On the F1 tube it looked funny so I dug through my junk looking for a bell of some sort and came up with a box of steering wheel adapters I bought at a swap. I found a chrome one and turned it upside down and welded to the column tube. It fits the size of the wheel almost perfectly plus will add a little flash :) to the back side of the wheel. I had another turn signal switch picked out too but then found this one that I was going to list on ebay. It is the kind that has the rubber wheel it that would self cancel but the wheel is missing which worked out great cuz it looks like it was made to fit around the bell I welded to the column.

I was also able to get the headlight bar mounted to the frame.
I'm sure I am forgetting to do something so I figure if I leave it together for a few more weeks I will remember. I will pull the body off after 50's and finish welding the frame and start on the body work.

The other night I painted the inner decklid and the underside of the body. I shot the decklid first and then shot the body. The overspray settled on the decklid and turned it into a non skid surface. :x So last night I sanded it down to reshoot it but deiced to try my hand at buffing instead cuz I know I will have to do it on the body and wanted to get a "feel" for it. I used way to aggressive paper since I was planning on respraying it so there are some scratches that didn't come out but they are on the inside of the decklid and may be covered by interior at some point anyway.

Pinstriper noticed a big piece of something in the sealer so I tried to remove it unsuccessfully and then tried to cover my tracks and ended up doing a "flow check". I called "THE KING" for advice and he felt it was best to let it dry and try to sand it out. I baked the body @ 165 for 45 min and then let it cool for about 4 hrs. I was able to sand out the run as well as any dust particles that had settled on the top of the car. I decided to wait until Sunday morning to spray the color.

I got up early and made it to the body shop before 7am so It was nice and cool out. I fired the booth up and the temp was 61 in the booth. I used medium reducer and put three heavy coats on the car (VERY STRESSFUL). This made me run short on paint so I didn't get the outside of one of the door painted but will do that and the dash sometime this week.

The last of em....here is a pic of the one door I got painted and then a few pics of the deck lid after I sanded and buffed it. I used 1500 grit and wet sanded it flat and then some cutting compound with a wool pad then a used some super fine swirl remover and a foam pad to finish it.

By George--I think you've got it! Remember to be very careful of the edges-especially when buffing. Some guys put masking tape on the body lines and edges when buffing (and color sanding, sometimes) to protect the edge from burning thru. Just buff the flats of the panel right over the taped edge then remove tape and very carefully buff--or hand rub the edge or line.
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on September 11, 2007 5:50 pm
Buffing is slower now than the deck lid was.....my guess is cuz I did the decklid the day after I painted and I did the door a week after.

Did you get any pointers from the videos?
Urethanes keep curing for quite a while. Wet sanding and humidity do accelerate the cure. So, if you wet sand a panel try get it buffed shortly thereof. If, however you have wet sanded the whole thing with say 1500# and let it sit, you could very lightly resand a little right before the buffer with 2000#, 1 panel at a time.

I am slowly doing it. I did one cowl side last night and then the cowl top tonight. I know there will be some "finish" buffing when I am done cuz I can still see some scratches when the light hits them just right that I can not normaly see.

I finished the color sanding and buffing on the cowl last night. There are still some fine scratches in it that I can't get out so I will be parking in the shade. :) The paint is still pretty soft as I can get small scratches just from wiping off the last coat of wax. Once the car is together I may have to get professional help to make it showable before I pepper it with rock chips. :D

I worked with a guy back in the late 80's that had a 41 Ford PU that was an ISCA national winner for two or three years in a row in the mid 70's. He painted the truck with RM black lacquer. He still had the truck in the late 80's and brought it out for a show in Sioux Falls. I watched him and his wife prep it for show. They did this every time they showed it on the circuit.
Here's their recipe, Eyeball.
1-Very carefully wipe the truck down with damp very soft towels and dry with very soft towels. 2-I can't remember the brand name wax they used but it came in a tube. It was a carnuba wax with a glaze in it. They would go over the truck 4 to 6 times in a row (wax on-wax off) with very soft cloths, until the wax wouldn't buff off without smearing. Then they would let it dry and go have some lunch. 3-Repeat step 2. 4-Repeat step 2, but now they were down to 2 or 3 coats, because of the build up. 5-Using good lighting, they would look over the truck and see if any spots still showed swirl marks and put more wax on these areas. 6-When they were satisfied that it was good it was put on display and rechecked per step 5. 7-During the show, it was dusted lightly with a soft feather duster very frequently, no more polishing was allowed.
They did kind of a quick version for the Sioux Falls show and it took 4 1/2 hours. It looked like a wet lollipop! I was amazed how wet and deep the shine was.
Every 2 or 3 shows they stripped all the wax off with wax and grease remover and started the process over.
They were from Siuox City, Iowa and they showed the truck every weekend during the ISCA season. They would leave Thursday nite to get to shows as far as 1500 miles away, go thru this process, and then drive home Sunday nite after the show. In order to get enough points they had to get first place in enough shows to beat competitors who were showing nationwide coast to coast at ISCA events. They did this staying in the central US and only made a couple west coast shows. I can't imagine the stress and work.

So I was able to get the body shop again the weekend before xmas. I got permission to use it on Thursday so I only had two nights to prep the grill shell, tank and hood tops. I had hoped to paint the hood sides at the same time and be done with all this paint shit but I just didn't have time to get them ready. I needed to drill the holes for the headlight conduit and didn't know what size they were originally so I had asked the question on the HAMB. I did get the answer so Saturday morning I set out to drill the holes. I ran all over town looking for the correct bit (which I failed to find) but ended up using what I had. I flipped the shell over on the stand and found this nice sticker that told me what size the holes were supose to be. Oh well at least I upped the post count on the HAMB ;)

Post by: Eyeball on January 01, 2008 5:59 am
Got it all in primer and then in sealer at the body shop and all was going well. I had a small "flow check" in the tank so I let it dry untill late Sunday night when I sanded it out and started to lay the paint on.
Title: 32 ROADSTER
Post by: Eyeball on January 01, 2008 6:03 am
Then I screwed up.....lack of sleep or over confidence....not sure or a combination of the two. I ran the paint down one entire side of the grill shell. It was about 10 pm and I was pissed. Finally I remembered I was in a body shop and dug around for one of their quick dry heat lamps. Set it up and cooked the shit out of it for about a half hr and then sanded out the run and resprayed the shell. I didn't get home till about 12:30 but it was worth it to have it done.
The reason you can't see the run in the pick is I took thinner and wiped off all I could to help speed up the dry time.

I took the three days after xmas off to work on the car. It took me almost two full days to sand and buff the stuff I painted.
Here are a few pics. I use 4 stages of polishing, the first pic is a hood half wet sanded with 1000 grit and then sanded again with 1500. Some 2000 would make buffing easier but I didn't have any. Then I start with and aggressive compound working my way to the final glaze.

The next day was spent getting the fuel gauge to work. I have never had a fuel gauge in one of my cars that worked so I wanted this one to WORK. The first sender I got from MNHRH was the wrong pattern for my tank. Tim sent me another one which worked great. Got it installed and tested and I will for once be able to know when I am out of fuel.....I'm sure I will still run out.....
The rest of the day was spent installing the cowl and grill shell lace. I finally figured out they didn't send me the correct hardware for the cowl lace and had to make two of my own brackets. The upper one came with the kit and the lower one is the one I had to make two of.

Here are some pics of what I did with the upper windshield posts. I ordered a 3" chopped windshield and got 2" chopped posts. I wanted the windshield to lay back more than stock but not too much so it looked broken. I ended up laying it back 7 degrees more than stock. I also chopped the inch out of the stanchions and made sure the post on the top was straight up so the top will still work when I get to that point. I had a problem with the windshield hitting at the point where the upper and lower stanchions joined. I ended up putting a flat washer under lower stanchions where they bolt to the body to "tip" them out slightly and that gave me about an 1/8 inch or so on each side. I think I will try another set (brand) and see if they will work without being shimmed out.

Is it just me or does that car seem so perfect its like . . not real? Like a dream or something. It sits up in that category with airbrushed supermodels. Very nice, but almost off my radar cuz i'll never have one, right?

the interior will have a Lebaron Bonney kit.
People often ask me how I can build a car so fast and I always tell them that you have to do something on the project every day no mater how small. I am in Minneapolis tonight for a work meeting tomorrow. Before I left I looked for something I could get done in the hotel room.............
I got the mess cleaned up but I took two of the center caps with and got the sanding done on them. I started with 320 wet went to 600 wet and finished them off with 1000 wet. They are now ready for the buffing wheel. I did bring a towel with so I don't get charged for one. :) The middle photo shows the before and after. They were tumble polished which made the job alot easier.

I lowered the front another 2" and have some fender clearence problems. I had to roll the fender lips last night and that fixed most of it but I still rub on the drivers side over big bumps. I had it on the alignment rack again last night and I have some room to tip that wheel in slightly and I am going to do that today and then I should be ready to roll.

Thanks guys......
Here is a pic of what I did last night. I chopped the irons and clamped and taped the bows on. The second bow doesn’t fit for shit so I have to call today and see if it is for original irons or repops. The rear one still needs to be trimmed of 3 " and there is about a 3 inch gap between the front of the windshield and the header......so this may be a little trickier than I thought it would be.
I told Kathy it looks like I am building a tree fort on top of the car.

I was at Topper's yesterday and saw it. Very nicely done. The details make it stand out from the others. You hit the right proportions; ride height, tires, etc. The wife liked the job on the interior.
I had a similar set up with copper lines for the oil lines to and from the filter. I had double flared ends. Yours look similar. After about 100 miles the flare broke off the end. I have since put on steel lines. (brake lines) If you are not using flared ends or figured in the work hardening of the flares, disregard my comments. On mine, the return line viberates when it is running. The lines for the carbs could get kinda ugly if they crack off.

Yea I am going to change the oil lines to steel after next weekend. I am going to run the fuel ones in copper. I am a little nervous about it but they should not have much vibration but time will tell. Mine are a single flare.
Thanks for the great comments too!

I like how the stance isn't front low/ass high like nearly every other '32 ever built. I second the comment about the well proportioned wheels. For me, the car is a breath of fresh air. The "less is more" quote ran through my head when i looked at it at the show. Well done.

To Johnny Q. Public, this car is VERY understated. I didn't realize it until seeing it this weekend. However, the roadster blows away people in the know. Like Johnson said, it is a breath of fresh air. Thank you for beautifully representing what we stand for. The attention to detail, the proportions, everything resets the bar for everyone to reach for.

Post by: Eyeball on October 20, 2008 10:13 pm
One more update before I put it away for the winter. I have been fighting the top since before I painted the car. I bought the top iron off the Ford Barn for some jhole that said they were complete and had been hanging on a barn wall for 30+ years.....well the barn must have fallen down somewhere around the 1 year mark cuz they were pitted to hell and frozen AND he had removed a few of the rivets. So I got them to move and ordered top bows from Lebaron Bonney. The header bow fit fine, the rear bow was a little tight; I had to pull hard on it to spread it to get it on to the car. The second bow was the one that has been giving me so much trouble. It would not fit for shit. I even ordered another one from Lebaron Bonney thinking that they had just pulled the wrong one, but it was the same.
A few weeks ago at the Pileup the vendor next to us had a 30-31 roadster top (bows and cloth) I walked over and looked at it a few times and noticed the second bow sure looked like what I needed on my top. I picked it up for 90 bucks. (about the cost of 1 bow).
Well after all is said and done it on the car. I have 30-31 irons (which I paid 32 ford price for) 30-31 rear and second bow and a 32 header bow which I had to modify. The 30-31 irons put the bow farther forward than the 32 ones so I had to make a filler on the back side between the windscreen and the bow.
I chopped the rear leg of the irons 3" and took about 1.5" out of the rear bow. I also took 2" out of the forward leg of the irons to get it to line up with the laid back windscreen.
I was going to use the cloth I got with the top but the rear corner pieces just will not work with out being reworked.

Bringing this thread back from the dead! I am in SE Mn getting the top put on the 32. Jay Peterson is doing it and he is also the guy that made the seat and covered it. You may notice in the pics that the engine is missing. I had an oil leak I wanted to repair so I pulled it. After installing the new rear main seal I managed to crack two of the rings so it will be back together in a week or two once parts show up.
We started on the top this afternoon I will update tomorrow night with more pics.

Don't get me wrong.....there's nothing that compares with cruising (driving) without the top or top down (we've had four of 'em)....., but just sitting there, they have a good "hot rod/custom" look with the top up/on. Only use the side curtains if you have to though.....geez they are noisy! :)
