Title: Remodel the '28
Post by: Tom on December 11, 2006 4:49 pm
Had the '28 on the road since '89, so I though it's time for an update.

Going to add splash aprons, cut the hood to aline it better and of course a little differens style wheel.

How about the tried and true drivetrain? I'd be interested if you are going to switch to something different.

The remodel will be cosmetic only. An attempt to make it look a little more traditional. As long as it has radials on it will never quite make it, even with a hood. As for the running gear, why change something that runs down the road all day long at speed limit "plus" , and give you  decent mileage.

I don't know if you remember Jake, this motor has been tweaked. I remember you saying your's ran out at about 80 this one will still pulls up to  100.

So are you going to put some bias ply tires on the new wheels?

With all the damn wheel and tire combos you have you should have a set in there some where........and besides........

Well I'm not makin as much progress as Eyeball, but I am getting some things done.

Got the wheels together, now to the untrained eye they look like ordinary wheels. But you know me, they have been modified. The front's were 15 x 5 1/2, are now 15 x 5.  The rear centers were IH 15 split rims and the out side rims were 16" 3/4 ton Ford truck. Here is a pic of what helps me do this. In this pic I'm making the wheels I used on the front of my 4d Chevy.

Got all the bondo work done, and everything is in DP40.

You'll notice my paint booth looks just like my shop. :(

Thanks Travis. I wasn't looking for at-a-boys. My point is if you don't drive with 20" bling blings they don't get. Most don't under stand the traditional look.

The ONLY thing that matters is being parked at the HOP UP tent at the bend in the road on Monday night. :)

In my foolish inexperience i've tried explaining it to people. You can imagine how that works. Just yesterday, a guy was looking at my car and asked where the hood was. When I told him I wasn't running one, he asked if the car will work without a hood. Work meaning will the engine run. mmmhmmmm.

"Here's your sign."

That's when I would start messing with them.

"I got a hood bypass kit for it."  or  "If you switch to synthetic blinker fluid and titanium muffler bearings you can run without a hood."

Yes I do. Is there a way to dump the pics right from the camera on to this web site? What I have been doing is loading them on to my pics and than attaching them to the post.

If you hook the camera up via cable you can go to "my computer" and it should be there and just open it like your my pics folder.

RacerJ...you're never going to be a true hot rodder until you learn what those running board skirt thingys are called, and you learn an appreciation for the Big Daddy's fiberglass, and learn who Keneth Howard is.  Looks good Tom- I'm excited to see it in person sometime!  kool garage too!

Splash Aprons!
Title: Remodel the '28
Post by: racerjohnson on October 22, 2007 5:40 pm
Well Mr. Pinstriper, I guess I'm doomed forever to be a fake hot rodder. How condisending and foolish that a person who has never built a driveable car in his short life would question someone elses passion. If everybody knew everything and felt the same way about every aspect of cars or the culture, we wouldn't need to form clubs now would we? We'd have nothing to share.

I apologize to Tom for my pride driven comeback, back to the remodel.

Is this what Thanksgiving is like around you too? :D
Title: Remodel the '28
Post by: racerjohnson on October 22, 2007 11:44 pm
Haha, no, Thanksgiving is better. We're not allowed to talk about cars at (pinstripers) momma's house. In pinstripers words, we might as well bring mein kampf in the house. The two of us have to fight for our right to do the hot rod thing.

By the way Tom, when did you put a fog light on your car? Neat.

Yea when did you put that on...... Looks great, I hope to run one on mine too but the ones I have look too small next to my 32 headlights.

ding,ding,ding,.........Pete wins. It was a test to see who would notice. BTW only one person at cruse nights here in Bis asked about it!!!

Did it after I got back from Watertown rod run.
