I've looked for hours online for a cap and rotor for my Mallory Dual Point Distrubutor. NOS ones don't show up very often. So, I sat at NAPA and looked at the Echlin picture book for a half-hour. They actually list the cap and rotor as for the Mallory ZC and _C distributors. Neat. So, without further adeu:
Echlin
Cap: MA5
Rotor: MA7
Enjoy.

would this be a 2 piece cap?
-
no. why?
-
because i was wondering.
-
The one piece cap is lame.....he was just too polite to tell you.. :)
-
is lame the era corect trem?
-
I thought if your distributor cap was in more than 1 piece it was broken, now you're telling me it's cool? Are bullet holes in again?
-
Thanks for the tip, Tim.

As far as Todd and i know the two piece is no longer made, at least we have not been able to find them that is why he asked it it was the two piece. Todd has the two piece cap on his A.
-
so the second peice is the wire cover top?
-
the top piece is where the wires go in and they go into a rubber gasket. when the top piece is applied to the bottom piece and screwed together it makes a tight seal holding thewires in place and keeps water out.
-
if memory serves it was part # 4004
-
not 24004
-
no and not 3943902840
-
You're right, the one piece is lame...especially on a hoodless car.
Thank you for the info Todd.
-
a NOS mallory cap pn 4004 just went for 105 dollars on ebay. Didn't see that coming.
-
yeah, thats about the going rate
-
oh.
-
however i have seen whole distributors with caps at swaps go for 20 -50 bucks

This is what I have heard as well. I good note of info is on the factory '56 Oldsmobiles, the distributor cap is the same as a SBC. I don't see why the Mallory wouldn't be that way too. So maybe a SBC would be more likely to find if you had that year distributor. It is too bad you can't get them as they are so bitchin'.
