Title: Road trip back to ND
Post by: Fordman1 on May 10, 2013 12:27 AM
My plan is to leave the evening of the 23rd in either a rental or a borrowed 1 ton duallie, drive the 1600 miles in 24 hours, sleep at my sisters place in South Fargo, head to the farm Saturday morning (my birthday!), clean up the farm, trade three cars for one T body, load up every salvageable piece of tin/motor/workbench and my rolled 1978 bronco on a rented car trailer, head out sunday night, take the south route through the Tetons/Yellowstone, unload at my new house (with a miniature garage), take a shower and get ready for work!

The last trip I did like this was in my T bucket and solo, so I hope this one is just as fun with buddies and hauling old tin instead of driving it!

Well everything went smoothly!  Drove all night to make it back, got the trailer out to the farm first thing Saturday morning and then loaded most of the day.  Dan showed up and took three cars and dropped off the T body.  My cousin and I split up the remaining parts (mostly flatheads of unknown quality).  Got back to Fargo and repacked everything in the Bronco and back of the Dodge Dually Diesel I rented from my neighbor.  Got up early Sunday and drove back to Portland straight through again, though we detoured through Parshall ND and the oil fields.  Also got to see Lake Sakakewa and Teddy Roosevelt National Grasslands.  Hit some major hail outside of Billings and massive rain once we got into the Gorge headed along the Columbia towards Portland.  Spent the rest of Monday, after we got to town in the afternoon, unpacking, unloading, buying wheel casters to move the bronco as tight to the wall in my little garage, charging the batter in my T to move it into the garage, rearranging everything that had been in the garage, dropping off the trailer, dropping off the T body at my buddies shop (he was less impressed!) and finally washing and cleaning the dodge to return to my neighbor.  Whew it was a long trip.  3500 miles, 52 hours of seat time, 4.5 days, 20 ish hours of sleep, lots of diesel, lots of Gatorade and jerky.  But the epic voyage is over and now to get after the body work so I can get rid of the fiberglass body!  I will post pictures when i have a minute to re-size stuff.

Driving past Jamestown brought back memories of getting my picture taken under the statue of the Buffalo when I was 5 or 6.  Newest Hot Rod has that as one of the landmarks to visit!  Too cool.
