Progress! Are you shooting for Prime Steel?

Yep - 2015.  Unfortunately, there is way to much work to do yet for this year's show.  I still have to finish the wiring harness, trim, bumpers, and glass when it comes back from the painters.  And after that, it goes down to Stillwater to finish the upholstery.  With any luck it will be driven by late summer / early fall.

More paint pics.

Event Announcements / 32nd Annual Prime Steel Car Show
« on: February 07, 2014 2:16 am »
It is that time of year again.  The 32nd Annual Prime Steel Car Show will be April 12th and 13th.

We are looking to feature vintage dragsters this year.  The car of the year is a '55 Chevy Gasser, and we already have a few other drag cars registered and a couple more commitments.  I would love to put a bunch more on the floor.  Of course Hot Rods and Customs are still accepted as well.  Come join us for a fun weekend.

Happy Winter Solstice to me.  Greg Jr. got the Merc primered today.  He also layed out an idea for the panel paint with the guide coat.  I am going to bring the dash down there on Monday and we will try to finalize the panel layout.  Now they can start blocking the car down.  Color will be soon.  Stay tuned.

1962 Mercury Monterey Wagon.  Kind of ugly and street roddy, but it has potential.  I rarely see these things come up for sale, let alone within the state.

Body work continues on the Merc.  Filler is getting spread, correcting all of my welding and rust repair sins.

I also scored a NOS piece of tailgate trim on Flea-Bay this week.  $20 was a pretty good deal, but then again I may be the only person in the country (world???) currently restoring / building one of these wagons.

I also dug a 430 MEL out of the woods 2 weekends ago.  With the 6-71 hanging on the wall of the shop, I may just have to build something to pull behind the wagon,  FED maybe.....  Or since this is the Land of 10,000+ lakes, a MEL powered boat perhaps.......

Do they re-pop any part of that taillight?

Not that I am aware of.

Not a bad price if the bezels are in good shape and don't need to be re-chromed.  It would be nice if he posted some pictures.  The wagon does use the same taillights as all other Monterey's.

Or on the back of a Chebbie, if you prefer....

The guys at Northern Muscle have been putting some time in on the Merc.  The interior has been sealed and painted, and the Fat Mat has been installed.

Welcome Jeff,
Nothing wrong with a straight block.  My shop truck / beater has a built up 300.  Plenty of inliner fans around here.

It isn't that bad as there are a whole bunch of things that have been getting neglected (Debbie would argue that she is one of them) in order to get this thing out of my garage.  So now I can get caught up on a bunch of other projects.

At the painters...

As you can see, the Greg's have a bunch of cars in the shop right now, but hopefully this thing will be painted before the snow gets too deep.

First Drive this Evening....

Well out of one garage door, to the end of the drive way, and back into another stall, but under its own power so it counts.   The big girl gets loaded onto a trailer this weekend and brought down to Northern Muscle for paint.  Pictures will follow.....
