Crank install
« on: May 08, 2007 6:14 PM »
Pulled the crank out of the 350 thats going into the Stude and having Wayne polish or grind it, whatever it needs.  I made sure the caps are in order and will go back correctly. I'll also be replacing the oil pump, seals and, obviously bearings.
Any other words of wisdom on dropping it back into the block? I can't remember how long its been since I've done a crank install.

The only thing I would add is to replace the input seal on the tranny. They ALWAYS leak. And take a look at the balancer you may want to think about a speey sleeve for the that too.

I always spin the rear seal in the block a little so the parting seams are not lined up with the parting seams on the block, makes for less leaks.

Well, as it turns out, the crank is shot anyways.

I would reconsider dropping the crank in unless your aim is better than mine. I would carefully set it in the block instead.

. . . whoever your machinist was, he was definately hungover when he did your crank.

I brought it over to Wayne Rud, he took one look at it and said it was shot. It never even saw the grinder.

...mmmmm....grinder
