Lucky's '29
« on: March 01, 2013 4:16 AM »
So some of you know that this fall I picked up a '29 roadster project it is an original cowl and all new sheet metal from there back.  The plan is to put it on a '32 frame powered by latham supercharged 283 chevy with a pair of Fenton Black Widow exhaust manifolds.  Here are some pics from when I picked it up and some mockup pics.  I am not going with the grill in the mockup I have a '32 shell I will be using.

So I did get a rear suspension done the axle is a '72 bronco with ladderbars, a '36 rear spring and some 40's ford spring hangers were reworked and attached to the rear.  Still need to redo the mounting plate for the spring u-bolt mounts, but you get the idea.

So one of the thing about this project is the body just had zip screws in it for mock up and honestly I think the guy was having some problems getting things to align.  I have many hours in just getting the cowl and subrails finalized, but as of tonight things are welded and square so next will be hanging the doors an back half which I have been told by those that have put a body together is easier.

One problem I discovered was that the subrail toeboard support were not good repops.  I have attached a few pic of the originals and how much I had to pie cut them to match the originals.  Once I got this figured out things did go much better.

I also finally got some Lyons hubcaps for the project as well as a pair of cast bronze folding stanchions.  Long ways to go but it is getting there I guess.

As Randy Gribble says “ You know what reproduction means……………..it almost fits.”

Thanks for the build pics Chris.
